On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopts our Declaration of Independence. It had already resolved on July 2 that “these United Colonies are, and, of right, ought to be, Free and Independent States . . . .” Now it formally adopted a written document, too.
It took nearly a month to write the Declaration. You may know that Thomas Jefferson was the primary author, but he had help, too.
What is the rest of the story?
On June 11, Congress nominated a “Committee of Five” to draft a declaration. This committee did not leave a written record of its deliberations. Instead, the accounts we have were written many years later, when memories had faded. Many of them were conflicting. We may never know exactly how our Declaration was drafted, but we can get a general idea of the series of events.

"Rise now, brave SOULS OF LIBERTY and heal this broken place..." (Line taken from the protest song, No Kings No Crowns No Tyrants
Play it loud. Play it on repeat. Play it at townhalls, ICE agents, WhiteHouse, and wherever our politicians gather.
My parents lowkenuinely guilt tripped me into doing poppers and smoke bombs with the family ❤️❤️ they asked me to join them and I said no bc im crocheting and then they seemed disappointed and my dad got my mom to ask me instead. Then when i was going back inside I was like “yeah I only came out here bc I was told to” and my mom said “well I asked you to.” Then I was like “well, both you and dad seemed disappointed when I said no” and then she said “well yeah, we were.” Like bitch my entire life I haven’t been interested in that shit. I only do it bc im asked to. The loud noises overwhelm me and fire makes me anxious and also the flashing lights are bad. I would much rather stay inside and do my little “grandma hobby” (crochet) in the quiet and alone. Why is that so hard to understand?
