Here is a useful bit of information for anyone who wants to make a subscription for something, but only intends on keeping it for the first period of that subscription, but is afraid they will forget to cancel it before the next charge:

For most services (almos all of them) you can make the subscription, and pay the first amount, then immediately go to the cancellation page, and require the subscription to be terminated. It will inform you that there will be no future charges, but that you can continue using the service for as long as the current period lasts. Be that period the equivalent of the amount you paid or a free trial period.

So far I have done this process for Spotify, Patreon, Mubi and HBOMax.

So let's say, just for the sake of an argument, completely arbitrarily, that you are only interested in paying for HBOMax from Oct 5th to Oct 26th. You could select the one month plan, follow all the steps to complete subscription and immediately go to the cancellation tab.
