The smallest bridge
One of strolling paths crosses a small, spring fed run near where it enters the main stream. We have had the same log bridge there for a long time, but it finally gave up completely and slumped into the water. It took me a few months (as these things do), but last week my son and I found a long black locust pole down at Home Farm and brought it up the road. We lugged it (locust is SO dense and heavy) across the yard and to the stream.
It is a bit narrow for a bridge, but I can manage for that short distance. Baxter, of course had to test it out. The older one is right behind him in this picture.
I moved the older piece to the edge of the stream, where it can moulder in peace and provide just a bit of erosion control.
I should plant some daffodils there. That would be cool. Hmm.

We hiked up to Lake Gibraltar, which included some fun stream crossings. It was like 18 miles round trip, so my knees weren’t very happy. The last mile or so was mostly off trail, which is my favorite sort of hiking. I think it would be fun to try to go cross country from the lake back to a few waterfalls a mile or so back. It's actually one of the flattest hikes in Boulder county with only 1600 ft of elevation gain.
