What are some harmful stereotypes to avoid when writing Vietnamese characters?

Two specifics are Vietnamese names as a whole (see our Hai Chen post with additions from Vietnamese readers) + “Asia is just China/Japan/Korea”. Nothing specifically about Vietnamese people comes to mind, but input from our Vietnamese community would be great. 

Also not necessarily a stereotype about Vietnamese culture, but the mish-mash of Southeast Asia into one monolith in a lot of Western media definitely pertains to Vietnamese representation that I’ve seen! That’s one thing that’s been bugging me with cough a certain animated film released this year cough.

okay i know i just said i’d find the loceit nicknames but i remembered this ask and wanted to answer rq, also ily casey sorry this took like three days to answer lskdfjdlk

they have a lowkey date every wednesday night where they watch movies in ro’s apartment!!

roman’s favorite thing to do for dates is find somewhere new to explore or something new to do, like finding cool rocks on a beach that match each other’s eyes or going a couple cities over and searching for a cute thrift shop or fun couples challenges (like the one where you buy the other’s favorite drink, snack, something in their favorite color, etc)

virgil’s favorite thing is either chilling together at home or going to the movies!! 

roman also really enjoys cooking for the both of them so they do that a lot 

as for special moments:

their first anniversary, when roman edited together a whole video of basically the entire time they’ve known each other set to ~their song~ and gave it to virge as a gift and virgil DID have to lock himself in a bathroom for a lil bit to compose himself 

their SECOND anniversary, when virgil gave roman a scrapbook of them and roman just cried right there bc he’s a sap 

much smaller, but the time roman was near tears watching a proposal compilation and virgil casually mentioned that roman better not propose in front of a crowd or he’d say no for embarrassing him, and roman fully stopped and then just. smiled to himself 

the actual proposal :)
