Many fantasies are focused on individuals attempting regime change from an oppressor. I just started watching Merlin and was intrigued by the different strategies for regime change used by merlin and Morgana even though both are magicals. I myself would love regime change in my country from a death eater government, but which strategy would work best for me based on these fantasy figures?
The difference in merlin and Morgana's actions seem to be a result of (a) Morgana having a priveleged upbringing and having high expectations from life while merlin as a country boy with no privilege is happy to take what he can get, and (b) Merlin can work within the system as Gaius is a known magical ally while Morgana has no known magical allies in power.
Funnily, harry and Morgana have the same profile (for when they are part of violent rebellions). When harry had a political ally in power (Dumbledore's ideas), he focussed on personal issues (solving mysteries, loathing his dad's betrayer).
Finally, Katniss is in a situation most similar to us. Given her non-privileged upbringing, lack of political allies, and maybe because one individual cannot overthrow a regime (instead it takes an army from another state), Katniss seems to have no political agency and withdraws into her personal issues (saving peeta, prim, etc).
