Posted @withregram • @straits_times Feeling nostalgic looking at these photos? Shopping malls are a big part of Singaporeans' lives. For some, it was the place of a first date. For others, a favourite hangout after school. These cherished memories are captured in a new book launched by National Development Minister Desmond Lee. In the past, malls offered an eclectic mix of businesses which led to youth subcultures such as the "Far East kids" and "Centrepoint kids", said the book's author Liew Kai Khiun. Today's malls are highly curated with similar chain stalls, branches and franchises. With the proliferation of social media, young people no longer go to malls to "exhibit and showcase themselves, and meet up with others", he added.
