Today I went to the movies with my friend Leah and we saw Straight Outta Compton. Now going to see this movie I had only seen the trailer this morning and the meme for this movie is everywhere so I was confused on what I was about to see. When watching the film I danced in my chair, cried, was shocked, laughed, and was wondering if this was true. I see police brutality happening today on the news but what about the ones that don't make it to the news? I was wondering why someone could be so rude to a human being because of their color. Also I kinda gained respect for rap. You see they say to the press that their music is just representation of the actual street violence that happens in their neighborhood. Wow. That's so true. Now besides all the street violence/police brutality during the film what struck me the most is the bond they seemed to have shared. And that right there is where we begin the Aftermath.

Hey!! Thanks for the kind words, they mean a lot. Sorry to get back to you so late. I can’t think of many poems now that fit the description you’re looking for but I will try to rack my brain for some. Right now I can think of Jamila Woods’ Underground Men. It definitely speaks on Slavery & its afterlife, as well as the way that Black anger has been pathologized. Legitimate anger, justified anger, righteous anger, that Black folk have is often considered to be “dis-ordered”, as Woods puts it. Just looking at the rates at which Blacks, particularly Black men, are diagnosed with Schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder should be cause for some deep critical analysis. It makes it easier on society to simply diagnose someone based on their anger instead of trying to understand that anger and work to heal the wound.  It’s certainly touching, fairly aggressive (in that it’s a strong ass poem), definitely deals with the ways in which Black folk are struggling against society’s anti-Blackness. It’s a narrative in a way so it’s not SUUUUUUUPER straight to the point but I personally think it’s fairly direct.Hope this poem is helpful! Like I said, I’ll try to think of some more.
