Hi. My name is Meagan. And I'm addicted to watching TV. I just heard on the radio that the average American watches more than 4 hours of TV per day. O. M. G. That's ridiculous... But sadly I know from personal experience that it's true. I've always been really proud at the fact that I have never paid for cable TV. Not through college, not in my first house, when I lived at the Grove I got free TV, and I don't have it now. But I do have an antenna so I get about three channels at my house, I have Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime... so there is plenty of opportunity to get sucked in. I came to the realization this winter that I was spending way too much time in front of the television. I tried to give it up for New Year's, that didn't work... But then I finally, thankfully, snapped. That led to my Rampage of trying to find something else to do to consume my time so I couldn't watch TV even if I wanted to.
I've been successful filling my time. I'm limiting my consumption to a show or two a day. One day, I'm going to be the type of person that reads books and goes to bed early (LOL). Trying to live an intentional life, TV is definitely the enemy but it's a hard had it to kick!
If you are one of the average Americans watching at least four hours a TV each evening, here are some tips for you:
1. Join a gym, attend workout classes, go to yoga, etc.
2. Find an accountability partner that is depending on you to go to one of the aforementioned places, so you can't let them down!
3. Join an organization that has meetings in the evening at least once a week such as the Rotary, Bible study, local Business Association, etc.
4. Find a hobby, get a part-time job, volunteer... Find something you are passionate about and more excited to do than going home and watching TV.
5. If you must indulge, try to be productive at the same time buy folding/ironing clothes, doing TV watching exercises, or other "TV jobs" (as my mom would say - meaning mindless tasks that still need done).
