Connected to this post, as everyone knows because I bitch about it all the damn time, one of my least favorite 'trends' in cinema is directors not respecting or trusting their audiences and therefore wrapping things up with a little "here is the moral of the story" monologue
And I catch myself thinking this is a contemporary issue, and it is ubiquitous rn, but directors who make challenging or ambiguous or anything that isn't neatly folded into simple meaning have constantly been met with friction, like, from Tarkovsky to Kurosawa, most film makers who make dynamic works have all had their films accused of being poorly done because it wasn't immediately digestible and tied up with a little bow
But it’s very easy to sit through some character yapping on in the final scene about how y=mx+b, did you catch that, and at least *want* this to be a contemporary problem because that would mean maybe someday we will escape it
