Drombohilly Stone Circle
This ancient circle is on the Beara Peninsula in Co. Kerry, SW Ireland. An absolutely stunning place if you have the constitution to reach it (which lbr I was definitely pushing but LOOK I needed to get here!!)
10 of 11 stones are still standing and all in original upright positions too except the one portal stone leaning at an angle. But this leaning stone is still freestanding! The last stone of the 11 has fallen and split in two, and is already mostly obscured by spiky gorse growing overtop it. The short recumbent stone is similarly obscured almost completely but not yet split. There was a large white quartz stone at the circle's centre, also split into two pieces. It was surrounded by a number of modern offerings including a pure white oyster shell grown perfectly around two embedded pebbles, and a pretty smooth stone with circular white quartz banding.
The circle has a commanding view from the top of its hill overlooking the surrounding landscape and mountains. The pines surrounding it are new and block the circles view of a lake connected to the ocean close by.
Folks, these stones were BIG. many were as tall as me or even taller. The photos don't do their height justice as the grass at their base obscures another like two feet you can't see above the ground. GUH. MAJESTIC. BEAUTIFUL. POWERFUL. let me come back rn
