i had to open and close my classroom and be the only staff to take care of 3 kids under 15mos for 10 hours yesterday because there's literally no other option when my co-teacher is out sick :) and i would've had to do the same today if i didn't have this pre-scheduled appointment so i could 'only' open and had to leave early :)
now that i've been forced into a management position i really didn't want because they couldn't hire anyone to take over i'm a manager i'm going to ask my direct reports to stay home when they're ill so they will rest and hopefully not continue spreading illnesses even if they don't test positive for COVID on day 1 of their symptoms because other illnesses also still exist and i cannot keep getting sick :)
yes i do feel genuinely terrible leaving my supervisor to close my classroom but no i cannot 'just reschedule' this appointment that i've already had to fight tooth and nail to get that's literally to address the complications i've been having from repeated sinus, respiratory, and ear infections from exposure to sick kids and coworkers :) i also cannot 'just come back in' after this appointment, i'm having an uncomfortable procedure done and i need to go home and rest after :)
but i am going to feel so incredibly guilty about it the entire time :) not for the staff, but for the kids. it's not fair to them. but if management had actually put any effort into staffing our center appropriately then we wouldn't be in this position :)
maybe it'll all be back to normal tomorrow, and i'll be able to spend time dealing with my work email and getting curriculum and assessments due on friday done. but probably not :) because that's what working in this field is :)
