April 19th 1980
"This is undoubtedly my fault. I don't expect the police to believe me, but it is most likely the truest thing I have ever believed.
To begin, I must look back to April 6th. On that day, I had left the laboratory without signing out. I knew that something wasn't quite right. My thoughts ran wondering why all these ordeals involving children and their disappearances suddenly began after the fire. It had not occurred to me at the time to maintain any sort of logic - one tends to lose that sort of thing after seeing two dead children.
I sought the help of my colleague Richard, who directed me to a bizarre crimson tome. It was much of a philosophy book, quoting another book in many spots. My only guess would be that it was analyzing a pseudo-biblical text. It made often mention of a 'creature' or a 'beast' that took children.
Afterwards, I felt rather foolish for even considering that it might have been a plausible explanation. However when I returned to the lab, I found it gone. The area was much sealed off and they were re-routing the cars that came along.
But thinking about everything, there must be something further. As a scientific man, I understand that cliche of 'things are not always what they seem'. I truly believe it. There's no possible way that all of it was a coincidence. Deduction tells me that WE caused the children to go missing. There's even the remote possibility of SOMETHING taking them. Perhaps even some of them tried to escape, freezing to death in the cold. It just makes too much sense now.
It makes far too much sense."
this cliff howry guy sent me this video. or i'm assuming it was him anyways. I got it in my ask box by anyonymous message.

the effect
In the end I think that what the adults did by telling us about the Stitched man ended up making us paranoid. At least it drove a bunch of other kids to madness basically. I remember a couple other kids leaving the town. It would happen every now and again. Someone said it was because of the Stitched Man but I don't think so.
I think that they were probably just trying to make us scared. They'd do anything to keep us from wandering into the woods. Everybody knew that they were doing some funny experiments with lightning rods out there.
a stitched man history
They used to tell us not to talk about it. I mean it was obviously such a lie but they kept telling us that it would take us from our beds. With that the town just seemed quiet. Nobody else was talking about it and they felt as if it was serious.
Brightmount Downs is a delusional place.

a stitched man
Today I would like to share a story that was told in my town when I was young.
It was a cautionary tale to keep kids from going into the forest. They said that there was once a man whose face was falling apart and so he had to keep stitching it back together. He lived in the woods and they called him the master of the trees. He could appear in simply a gust of wind or a thunderstorm. They said that he was the one that heard the trees fall when nobody else was around. Some people said that they saw him and that he had rags for a face.
He would only appear when he needed to feed, and they said that he fed on the kids that wandered into his midst. Some said he was attracted to the fear and that once he decided on a victim there was no stopping him.
So nobody ever went into the forest. They stayed out and they never talked about the stitched man, because it was like they assumed it was a fact that he existed.
I’m not sure about this. I think it’s just another fairy tale.
