As someone who is active politically/social awarenessly (I don’t talk candidates, I post about issues mainly so I guess it’s political?? Well, as political as a person’s right to healthcare is political) the only reason I share a picture of me dropping off my ballot is cause it “fits my vibes” if you will. It’d be pretty hypocritical if I told strangers on the internet to go vote and then didn’t vote myself. But for everyday people, who use social for ‘regular’ stuff it’s kinda like “hey I did a thing and left the house” (esp now) so idk I get why people do it but I also get why people are really tired of seeing other people do it 😂
But like, it’s definitely nice to see people my age (18-25) voting in their first elections and wanting to share that 🤷
I think the issue is this for me: I love that people vote. Obviously. Our dumpster fire of a country only “works” (a loose term) if people exercise their right to vote. And that’s cool! And politics are important to me, again obviously. I don’t post much on any social media because I’m old and tired and hate Facebook and Instagram. A lot. And absolutely when all of the “I voted” photos started yeaaaars ago, it was cool! People getting out there and doing the damn thing. But now it’s taken on a performative note that doesn’t sit well with me. But if that makes you feel better, then do it. But what I DON’T love is the EXPECTATION to post that photo. And if you don’t, clearly you didn’t vote nor do you care. And that is fucked.

I’m putting together a team
If I had a nickel for every time Mercury Studios hyped up a major Hilda announcement, just for it to be a sticker pack for your phone, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but I’m so mad that it happened twice.
