after the attack on new york, SHIELD analyst q proctor was transferred to a different department, or rather to a person. she was tasked with helping steve rogers, aka captain america, readjust to life in the twenty first century.Â
this includes, but is not limited to: psychological assessments, debriefing from SHIELD ops, introducing steve to new technologies and making sure he feels comfortable in in a world that is unfamiliar to him. qâs friend and fellow SHIELD agent, dawson, makes a point that sheâs nothing more than a glorified babysitter to a superhero.Â
but when SHIELD is internally attacked by HYDRA, qâs job becomes much more intense than she wouldâve liked. enlisting dawsonâs help, she becomes a fugitive from the only home sheâs ever known.Â
and when steve comes face to face with the enemy â who happens to be an old friend, q begins to find out thatâs sheâs much more connected with steve than she originally thought.Â
Q had just finished putting all the edge pieces of the puzzle together when she heard the hurried steps of someone coming down the stairs. Glancing over, she managed to see Captain Rogers sprint by and out the door.
"Shi - ." She reacted, lurching up from her chair. In one fluid motion, she swiped her phone from the table and went running out of the building. She quickly hurried down the stairs, careful not to trip over herself as she went. She pushed against the gate and let it slam behind her as she looked both ways, trying to spot him.
Off to the right, he had started running down the sidewalk and she had no choice but the go after him. Picking up her pace, she tried to catch up with him. Her heels clicked against the sidewalk as she went. Christ on a cracker he was fast. She wasn't a runner - hell the most exercise she ever got was during her lunch walks with Dawson.
"Captain!" She yelled out after him, trying to get his attention. Her muscles burned as she ran after him. She could already feel her feet aching in the tight shoes she had worn; when she began her day, she had no intention of running in the shoes. Her hair was flying out behind her and her phone was already slipping in her hand from the sweat. Her entire body was screaming for her to stop, but there was no chance in hell she was going to until he did.
ââ Shh, shh. Itâs okay. Youâre alright. Youâre safe now. ââ for Steve x Q!
the one where thereâs still after effects.Â
Q woke to the sounds of Steveâs yells. It took her a second to gather her bearings, but as soon as she realized what was going on, Q was on her feet. She hurried into the bedroom as Steve rolled out of his bed and onto the floor.Â
Sliding down onto her knees, Q got next to Steve as he startled out of his nightmare. His chest was rising and falling quite rapidly as he looked around the bedroom. His eyes were wide as he tried to figure out where he was, taking in all of his surroundings. He moved his head to the side to see Q next to him. She watched as he came out of his nightmare, moving to calm him down. Â
âShh, shh. Itâs okay. Youâre alright. Youâre safe now.â Q kept her voice soft as she reassured Steve. Her arms went around Steveâs broad shoulders, bringing him to her chest. Steve took in a hitched breath, chest heaving as he slowly came out of his nightmare.Â
It wasnât the first one heâd had since the incident in New York, and it certainly wasnât going to be the last. Q had quickly learned how to wake Steve up and calm him down. She had even started staying in Steveâs apartment with him at night so that he wouldnât feel so alone â she didnât need to; it wasnât part of her job, but Steve was grateful that she did.Â
Slowly, Steve started to calm down, his heart rate slowing and he felt Q take her arms from around his shoulders. One hand went to rest a top his right shoulder as she leaned over to try and catch his eye. Steve was worried at what expression he would find staring back at him: confusion, annoyance, frustration, pity⊠He didnât know Q very well â she came in and did her job and then left, not explaining any of her personal life. And yet, Steve found himself turning his head to the side, seeing how warm her eyes looked. Â
âWe can talk about it the morning.â Q quietly said, a comforting smile gracing her features. Steve nodded, not knowing what to say.Â
Pushing herself to her feet, Q stood up from where she had been kneeling next to Steve. She tucked the hairs that had fallen from her loose ponytail behind her ears before she held her hand out to Steve. Steve looked up at her, eyes shifting from her outstretched hand to her eyes,Â
âIâm sorry.â Steve quietly said.Â
Q paused for a moment, not expecting that. Then she gave him a firm nod, the comforting smile still on her face. Steve took her hand, using his strength to push himself out of his sitting position; there was no way Q would be able to pull him up â she was tall, yes but there was no muscle on her.Â
âIn the morning.â Q reminded him, but not in a way that meant to make Steve feel bad.Â
Steve nodded once at her before turning to the side. Q figured that meant it was her time to go. She stepped out of the bedroom and into the living room where she had been sleeping on the couch â much to Steveâs annoyance; he had offered the bed a hundred times.Â
Curling up on the end of the couch, Q waited to hear Steve get back into bed. A few moments later the light clicked off, but Q stayed awake until morning, just in case.Â
