23. makes the dirty jokes.

based on the show material, danny makes Dad Jokes™, so this has to be steve, mr. 'if I didn't put my finger inside of you we wouldn't be having this conversation', 'professional what?' 'he got it falling out of bed', 'you never butter my pancakes' *waggles eyebrows* 'mcgarrett. it's probably even worse around his navy buddies because the way they are used to talk would probably make even danny blush.

he's got the maturity of a 13 year old in that regard, never saw an innuendo/pun/dirty joke opportunity he didn't take and he's only gonna dial it up after him and danny get together. ('i hate you' - 'that's not what you screamed last night ;)') danny will permanently ban 'pain in my ass' from his lexicon because he doesn't want to give steve more ammo. he doesn't know how he's still attracted to the guy. oh, right, he has eyes.

26. gets a tattoo when they’re drunk.

for obvious reasons, getting a tattoo isn't out of the ordinary for steve, he doesn't need to be drunk for that, so my guess would be danny. although, i suppose a drunk and sad steve could have gotten danny's name tattooed on his bicep in 6x11, wouldn't put it past him, lol.

i swear i read a fic where danny meant to get a tattoo of one of his gfs when drunk (don't remember if gabby or melissa) and ended up getting steve's name on his wrist which made the gf break up with him, naturally. he also immediately got an appointment to remove it but it could only be in a month so he had to walk with a bandage and lie about it. i do not remember when i read it or who wrote it or what else was in the fic, sorry.

when they are together if danny got a tattoo somewhere only steve can see as a surprise, steve would think it's the hottest thing ever, for sure, his possessive streak would soar, lol. (pretty sure i encountered that trope in fic too)

28. makes the other go for a walk.

steve is the definition of an outdoorsy type, his idea of a fun date is to hike up a mountain in a jungle, he's usually the one who has to practically drag danny because danny would rather lounge

i know in later seasons danny works out and willingly goes for runs but that's not the danny i know, lol.

Things messed up in 2020 and I put the ending of my favourite TV show on this list. I’m refusing to give up on my boys and I’m thankful to know you in my team with your reblogs and posts. Let’s continue to celebrate this show, the amazing ten years and the endless McDanno Moments we got.

4. What show/book/movie etc. was your comfort and/or escape this year?

Well, the very first one I have to mention here, is My Brilliant Friend (L'amica geniale). I was introduced to this lovely series via TV production (so far, there have been two seasons, which I highly, highly recommend) and I am planning to start reading the books series, by wonderful Elena Ferrante - which that show is an adaptation of - as soon as I can. The show is absolutely fantastic, even if certain stuff may not be easy to watch for some people; and I think the books are just as great, even more so, from what I’ve gathered👍

The second production that gave me comfort this year, is The Old Guard. I happened to watch it by an accident but I ended up liking it a hell lot. Heck, seeing my homophobic brother’s face was a joy enough; although there’s obviously so much more to this movie. I believe you can still watch it on Netflix and I definitely recommend it!

Finally, Hawaii Five 0/H50; a show I never thought I’d end up watching and yet, I did; with pleasure. Oh, don’t get me wrong, there are many things about this series that frustrate me; but getting to know ohana, especially the og Core 4 and ending falling hard for Mcdanno; were surely among the best experiences I had in 2020. Plus, I got to know many wonderful people in this fandom; so yeah, H50 and Mcdanno definitely brought me comfort.

15. What are you looking forward to coming out in 2021?

Movie wise? Nothing, really. Otherwise... Well, I hope getting back to my studies soon, as I had to take a longer break. I also hope that my professional life will get better this year, as there will be soon an upcoming opportunity for that in my life. I am also looking forward to more wonderful Tumblr experiences; even some completely new ones 😊

92. “Don’t sell yourself short.”

“No, this is gonna be it,” Danny said, showing Steve his computer screen. “This is going to be the profile that nets you that special someone.”

“I’m trying to find a date, Danny,” Steve replied, crossing his arms over his chest. “Not land a tuna.” He read some of what Danny wrote before pointing to one of the fields and reading, “Gourmet Chef? Really, Danny? I mean, I know I’m a better cook than you, but you can’t outright lie on one of these things! I’m gonna end up on a date with someone who thinks I’m actually capable of making more than five dishes.”

“Don’t sell yourself short, my friend,” Danny said, scrolling past the interests page. “Are you or are you not one of the founders of Waikiki’s best Italian restaurant?”

“Its only Italian restaurant,” Steve pointed out.

Danny waved off his concern. “Whatever. Everyone embellishes on these things.”

Pointing to another entry, Steve cried out, “Danny! I’m not six-foot-five! Change that right now!”

“Okay, fine,” Danny said with a sigh, changing the profile. “But, at least let me leave in the story about how you got honored by the Queen of England herself.”

“No! That’s going to drive away anyone normal!”

With a frustrated noise, Danny threw up his hands. “I thought you didn’t want to lie on this thing!”

“That’s...that’s a lie of omission,” Steve insisted. “It’s a totally different animal.”

“You’re a different animal.” Danny shook his head. “Okay, here’s an easy one. Interested in ... women. There we go. No lies, no embellishments. Simple.”

Looking over, Danny saw Steve pressing his lips together and wincing.

“What’s with the face?”

Steve scratched his eyebrow and said, “That might not be entirely accurate.”

“You’re not interested in women?” Danny asked. “Then what are we doing this for? If you don’t want a date, why am I spending my Satur--”

“No, Danny, I mean,” Steve sighed and covered his face with his hands before admitting, “I’m not interested in just women. Men too. If we’re being honest.”

“Oh,” Danny said, frowning at the computer screen. Then he closed the laptop, setting it on the coffee table in front of him as he said, “Yeah, okay. We’re done with that.”

Steve’s face fell. “Is that a--a problem?”

“Yes, of course it’s a fucking problem!” Danny cried. “I’ve known you for ten whole years, and suddenly now I’m learning this about you?”

“It’s not a big deal,” Steve said, reaching for the laptop. “Now come on, let’s finish--”

Danny slapped Steve’s hand, making him pull it away from the computer. “We’re not finishing that profile.”

“Why not?” Steve asked, giving Danny a vicious stare. “Why the fuck not, Danny?”

Gathering all his nerve, Danny grabbed Steve’s face and kissed him. “That’s why not.”

31: Birthday Fic + 69: Flirting Under Fire

hmmm, interesting!!! i want to thank my angel @themcinebcnd​ for the help with this one, because i am a dumbass and she’s great💙

- it’s danny’s birthday, steve has just picked him up (as well as the birthday cake that’s in his trunk) and they are on the way to steve’s house where the whole team is holding a secret party.

- they’re almost there when a kidnapping is announced only a few blocks away, so naturally steve pumps the gas and they start following the two cars to save the teenager who got kidnapped. shots are fired.

- steve is now using one hand while he drives to hold one of danny’s belt loops so he doesn’t fall out of the car while danny is half out of the window to shoot at the others in front of them.

- “oh fuck, i hope the cake is okay,” steve suddenly yells in the middle of all this.

“but i said no cake! i don’t need any-”

“what, are you kidding me right now? but it’s your special day, danno! of course you need cake, and presents, and-”

“babe, that’s really sweet, and i love you, but get closer!”

- they bicker and flirt some more as they usually do, and danny of course hits the tires on both cars. they end up saving the teenager and quickly book the bad guys who kidnapped her. finally they make it to the party, and danny gets the love he deserves from his ohana🥰

Sadly, the corresponding fic does not contain any answers of that sort. The working title for this one is “the fic where they’re married but so super-duper straight” (spoiler: turns out they weren’t entirely straight, but they’re very blind to that) and the idea is one that’s been done before, I think, but it’s that they “platonically” move in together, raise the kids, get married, probably adopt a goldfish or something and live the perfect white picket fence domestic life, but they’re just doing it as friends. Yes. Definitely. Just friends.

You get two snippets for this one, because they’re tiny and I have a lot of thoughts but I don’t have much else actually written. The first bit is just something random, and the second is around the time they’re finally figuring stuff out and contains a very blatant reference to Danny’s response when Steve quits the restaurant in 9.07 (“if you’re out, I’m out”), because that line of his just… it has potential.

“You know what’s really weird?” Danny asks. “Women don’t seem to want to date me when I tell them I live with my husband and our two kids.”

“Hmm.” Steve frowns like this is a conundrum indeed. “That’s very weird.”

“If you’re out, I’m out.”

Danny doesn’t mean to pull a face at that, but he’s pretty sure he still does. “Of the closet?” he asks. Not that there’s anything wrong with that – he just hadn’t thought he was in a closet up until this point. His claustrophobia would have told him a thing or two if he had been.

“Of heterosexuality,” Steve offers, which, yeah, that makes a lot more sense.

“All out,” Danny agrees. “None left.”

(was making a silly post and caught these looks) Danny's real reaction to the prospect of Steve going to North Korea, grave and serious as a heart attack (are those unshed tears??), this is the first time since they've met that Danny is faced with the real possibility of Steve leaving and not coming back, something he could only distantly fear before in case Steve got reactivated, now it's real and he's not handling it well at all, he doesn't know how to let Steve go without watching his back.

And then there's Steve, having an 'Oh' moment, caught completely off-guard by it, he's not used to anyone, let alone Danny, caring about him like this, he's not used to Danny showing it so openly, such raw vulnerability, admitting his worry instead of joking it off, perhaps Steve is not ready to face how that makes him feel.
