Stephen Jacques â Prayers For An Orange Cat This music is an interesting set of well-written & performed alt-rock love songs with generous touches of soul & folk with a post-punk vibe. Ten articulate Prayers For An Orange Cat (Drops July 26/Independent/34:56) were produced in Chicago by the late Steve Albini (Big Black) to ensure its expressive thrust. Though Stephen is based in the VirginiaâŚ
Stephen Jacques has recently released a new song named "Sometimes Love is Not Enough".
Stephen Jacques is an artist and songwriter who has truly diverse music. His sound is informed by his extensive experience, and he has been able to translate his sensibilities into a distinctive and dynamic sound. His most recent album, "Prayers for an Orange Cat," is a stunning studio work that sets the bar higher with a huge variety of influences.
The first song, "Sometimes Love is Not Enough," is a fitting introduction to such a mercurial album, as it immediately reveals Stephen's mindset and compositional philosophy. Recorded in Chicago at Electrical Audio (founded by the late great Steve Albini,) the song has a very organic and warm sound, which highlights the natural qualities of the instruments and Stephen's vocal style. The song has a beautiful range, kicking off as a mellow, understated track and eventually allowing the arrangement to climax towards the end with a powerful full-band arrangement that takes the intensity of the composition to a whole new level.

Stephen Jacques introducing his 11th album: Groove Atlantic-O.
Only a few artists get to record 11 studio albums. This is a massive milestone by all measures, and itâs even more impressive if you consider that Stephen Jacques released consistently high-quality music throughout his career. In other words, there arenât any fillers here! Even 11 albums later, Stephen showcases the same drive and passion. To make this record even more memorable, he recorded it at the world-famous Electrical Audio studio in Chicago, where he had the opportunity to work with Steve Albini, one of musicâs most legendary recording engineers.Â
Albini is known for his approach: capturing the artists and their performances in the most natural possible state. He achieved this on âGroove Atlantic-0,â enabling Stephen and his trusty bandmates to stay true to the original vision behind every song. This is the sound of a tight band playing in a room, and Stephenâs vocals are simultaneously gritty and fragile, reminiscent of songwriters like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, and Joe Strummer.
