STEM Journey – Ocean Discovery – March 28, 2015 – Noon to4PM – Cape Cod Community College
Cape Cod & Islands Council, Boy Scouts of America incollaboration with Cape Cod Community College, the Cape Cod Regional STEM Network and the Northeastern Section of the American Chemical Society and PID Analyzers. LLC, will be hosting the Second Annual STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Journey event at Cape Cod Community College on March 28, 2015 from noon to 4PM.
The theme this year is Ocean Discovery: Great White Sharks to Deep Ocean Exploration. The program will feature keynote presentations by Dr. David Gallo – Director of Special Projects at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the ever-popular Toby Curtis, Shark Scientist with NOAA's Greater Atlantic Regional Fisheries Office .
Numerous other organizations including the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies, the National Marine Life Center in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Greenbrier Nature Center, Cambridge Science Festival’s Science on the Street, Suffolk University, the Environmental Chemistry Division of the American Chemical Society, OceansWide from Maine, Lewis Bay Research Center, SeaBotix and NOAA Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, Teledyne Marine Systems and more, will be participating.
Specific activities will include a science café with interactive demonstrations including a sonar-matching marine archeology activity presented by NOAA Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, Lego WeDoBuild, Squishy Circuits, a duct tape boat and Roominate Doll House as well as presentations from science, technology and engineering professionals including presentations by Cape Cod’s largest STEM employers about their STEM career paths for students in high school. There will be several merit badge opportunities for Boy Scouts including Chemistry and Oceanography in the morning prior to the event start.
The event is open to the public and will be specifically marketed to students Cape-wide in grades K-12 as well as to Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts on the Cape and Islands and Southeastern Mass. Our award-winning 2013 Wicked Cool Science Café set in motion STEM Journey I, which had over 750 attendees and this year’s program is likely to attract well over a thousand. You are invited to be part of this program. There is no cost to exhibitors, presenters or participants. There is space available in the science café for organizations with hands-on exhibits as well as tables for those who offer STEM resources for students K-16. This will be a great opportunity to share information about your business or organization with potential employees or members!
Sponsorships from educational, technology, engineering and community organizations are also needed. This is an excellent opportunity to support educational excellence on Cape Cod and the Islands.
