it feels awkward to ask this because it's such a rarely talked about thing, but has anyone else experienced bad homophobia and ableism from walforf/rudolph steiner schools? whenever i talk about my experiences trialing a year of steiner education as a teenager, the response i always get is "are you sure that wasn't just a rural country town redneck thing and not a steiner-specific thing?" like these people simply can't fathom how the racial ascension theosophist hippies could hold anything even remotely negative under those little rainbow knitted hats. surely, SURELY i can't be the only one who's still recovering from lack of true math/science education, teachers neglecting how bad the bullying was, or the fact i watched my friend have a complete mental breakdown from the harassment he was facing (this was 2009 for context - aspergers was still one of those "new and misunderstood" things). there HAS to be others who have experienced rocks thrown at them and teachers brushing it off as "boys will be boys". SOMEONE must have spoken out against steiner education, i can't POSSIBLY be the only one.
I don’t really know anything about the Steiner schools, but I am sorry that you had to deal with all of that. 😕 You deserved a safe and healthy learning environment. Finding people who are recovering from the same things I am, and hearing their stories, has been incredibly helpful and healing. I wish the same for you. 💙

Favorite cryptid: School nurses at Swedish public schools
having gone to a waldorf school (also known as a steiner school) i trust you, but can’t relate.
the nurse was there, but she loved using alternative medicine, and in particular, Weledas Arnika Salve as a cure - all, which honestly, is scarier than any cryptid
x
[the smell of the arnika salve is enough to make any waldorf school kid tense!]
worst of all though, she enjoyed to rec läkeeurytmi as a cure for all arnika could not solve (chronic things like, a bad personlity or scolicios.)
i was once sent to läkeurytmi as a kid but i refused going, because i had heard it was hella dull. spoiler: it was the correct choice
once, i did go to for scolicios. what we did during läkeurytmi was to go in a circle and wave my arms in a spesific order while she read a poem. it was very ineffective as for help for scolicios (which i do actually have…)
thanks for nothing school nurse!
x
läkeurytmi in action. i did that exact motion for several months during the weekly session. she also read a poem while i did it. it was not very effective.
i loved going to a waldorf school, and do not regret it in any way, but damn the anthroposophic medicine used by my school, was some extra bullshit.
(i want to state, just so we are clear, that the usage of anthroposophic medicine was not forced by the school. but my parents, believe in it, which is why the encouraged me to use it.
forexemple, when i refused to go to läkeurytmi as a young kid, despite that my parents had approved of the läkeurytmi, and wanted me to go, the school personell did listened to my refusal, so i did not need to go.
the scolicios treatment thingy happened when i was 17 years old, and i went because my parents wanted me to go. as treatment for scolicios it sucked. it did though, allow me to take breaks from class, which what i used it for honestly)
