She'd been caught offguard, in the midst of a conversation when he'd just approached them, he didn't care that he'd interrupted and had practically accosted her without any care for what response he got. Their relationship was long in the past, Rory was happy without him leeching off her ideas, her life and using her emotions against her. As Lucas got between the two of them, she rested a gentle hand on his back - she hadn't ever seen something make him this angry. She uttered a soft, "Hey, it's okay..." hoping it would diffuse the situation, at least on one side. It didn't take much for Milo to at least back off at the realisation that he was physically outmatched, always the weasel. Only then did she rest her head against the broad back in front of her, "He'll be back, he wants something, I know it."

     Nattie was skimming through her phone, going through the many selfies she       took during the day. “I am having a tough time deciding what picture I should      upload to my I/nst/agram. What do you think?” She showed Lucas the photos.                                                         “Filter or no filter?”

She leaned into him ever so slightly as they walked, a warm feeling of contentment settling in the pit of her stomach. “Well, there’s this vintage book shop that just opened up and it has this cosy little coffee shop inside…” Rory stopped when she realised that she was going on, and looked up at him, her eyebrows scrunching in contemplation “Or we could just totally forget it because it’s really cliché and…”

She’d been in the middle of talking, the subject quickly drifting from her mind as Lucas reached over the table and cupped her face in his hands. It was welcome, the confidence with which he kissed her and she returned it as much as she could, slowly leaning upwards with her hands resting over his. A soft noise left her lips as she pulled away for a small breath of air, only then did Rory fix her slightly glazed eyes on his, “Huh.. what was that for?”

Her eyes stayed focused on him, her heart racing so fast she was certain he heard it. Rory couldn’t even muster up a laugh in response to his, too fixated on how good he looked when there was a smile on his face. She leaned into his touch as his finger tucked under her chin, there was an unwavering clarity now he was this close to her, there was no going back. If he hadn’t told her she wouldn’t have known he hadn’t done this in years, there was gentle pressure there that she savoured. Before she could really return the favour that much he pulled away, and a soft noise of she didn’t know what, maybe irritance, left her mouth. There was a thundering in her ears, her heart racing even harder now. “No, no,” she mumbled, tugging on the front his shirt and getting up on her tiptoes, “Come back, I wasn’t-” her eyes glanced up at the mistletoe, “I wasn’t in the Christmas spirit!”
