These are recs for Day Two’s themes! Hope it’s okay that I’m a little late; I was busy with some real-life stuff earlier this week, but catching up now.

Theme: WIP

Title: One rose is enough for the dawn

Summary: 

It should be enough for Jyn, this life, with Papa, in peace and safety. Far away from the war that had racked the rest of their country; far enough away that their lives had continued on despite the bleeding and dying that had been taking place elsewhere in the world.

It should be enough, but it wasn’t. Not when she dreamt of other lands and far away adventures, of traveling to all the places she’d read about in her books, and beyond.

Your books make our small corner of the world seem big, she'd almost said. 

But she hadn't, because...She wanted more, far more than what they had planned for her.

Other notes: Beauty and the Beast AU

What I love about it:

Beauty and the Beast was always one of my favorite Disney movies, and so far, I’ve found this AU interpretation pretty interesting. I really loved how the introduction set up the premise, particularly the insight in Cassian’s mind and how he feels indebted to his parents and all of his ghosts. The opening was very well written, and just gave me all the Cassian feels! (He needs a hug from Jyn so badly!) 

I also liked how the writer evoked the feel of Beauty & the Beast; I could practically hear the music as I was reading. I think what also appeals to me about this AU is that the author doesn’t get stuck trying to adhere the to AU too strictly, but rather finds the balance of both B&tB and rebelcaptain. You can get themes of either and the characters are still believable and recognize. 

Really enjoyable read; I look forward to

Multi-Chaptered

Title: encore (et moi je t'aime un peu plus fort)

Summary:

'Sometimes he’ll see a poster for one of Jyn’s concerts, or Bodhi or Leia (but never Kay) will accidentally bring her up in conversation when they catch up, but Cassian’s fine with it. He is. He’s fine, and perfectly content, or at least perfectly resigned, to never seeing her again.'

The angsty Mozart in the Jungle au you've no doubt all been waiting for and sequel to 'Poco a poco' by canardroublard.

Rated: Explicit

What I love about it:

I’m 100% always here for angst with a happy ending. Firefeufuego nailed Cassian’s longing and sadness perfectly here. As stated in the summary, this is actually a sequel to another (equally wonderful) fic, and I absolutely recommend them both, but wanted to shine the light on this one in particular because I think it deserves some more love!

I’m a real sucker for Jyn and Cassian working together as a team, and there’s a particular scene of them playing in the park that was magical. (Teamwork is one of my favorite tropes!) Communication may come difficult to Jyn and Cassisan, but there’s just something special about them playing together. I love it.

Added bonus: I have to admit, I haven’t watched any of Mozart in the Jungle, but I did appreciate that Cassian was best friends with Gael Garcia Bernal’s character.

Have some classical music on hand to listen to :)

Other notes: A soccer AU!

What I love about it:

Ohh, this is a really fun one! Perhaps geared for soccer fans, but I think it’s still fun even if you aren’t as into soccer. Lots of cameos and fun references that are well thought out. 

What I particularly enjoyed was the unique formatting. I love writing that mixes things up a little. Lee mixes narrative with a sort of live-ticker update format, as if the match was being reported on in real time. It makes for an appropriately fast-paced fic that evokes the speed at which a soccer game is actually played.

But that’s not all -- the descriptions of all the characters were spot on and and their soccer abilities/positions were appropriately fitting. We get some fun Tarkin and Krennic rivalry in addition to some absolutely wonderful rebelcaptain moments! (More teamwork, YES, what I’m here for!)

Overall really fun fic in a unique format. Quick read!

Word Count: 2,235

“Of all the things that Jyn shouldn’t be doing, this one…this one is really, really up there. (And there are many things that she does on a daily basis that one would likely say she shouldn’t do, considering the whole Saw’s Right-Hand Woman of the Partisans thing, so that’s saying something.)”

In a world where the Partisans and Rebels are rival gangs fighting to take control of the city away from a corrupt police force, Jyn and Cassian find themselves getting along much better than expected, and things get a little heated.
