Staging To Sell: Start Packing
Selling your house (your home!) can be exhausting and stressful. And it doesn’t help that when all is done, you get to celebrate by packing up your entire house-full of belongings, moving them to a new house, and unpacking them.
So here is my best advise: start packing now. Packing the day you list your house not only saves you some work down the road, but allows you to clear the clutter and potentially sell your house FASTER. As I see it, a win-win situation.
Potential buyers need to be able to visualize setting up their furniture and living in your house. As I always say, you have to live in your house differently when you are marketing it to buyers.
Here are some tips I’ve given countless sellers over the years.
* Clear Counters - Kitchen and bathroom counters, table tops, and dressers are all favorite landing spots for items we use throughout the day. Fill your first moving boxes with every loose item you encounter except what you absolutely cannot live without during the selling process.
* Maximize Walking Space - Walkways between and through rooms should be at least 3 ½ feet wide. Also, try grouping furniture in clusters away from the wall.
* Clear Closets - Potential buyers open every door, so best not to use closets to hide messes. Clear, well-organized closets look very appealing.
* Create Open Space - Start removing “extra” furniture from rooms, such as small chairs, small tables, foot stools, large vases and bookcases. This will open up the room and make it feel more spacious.
