So I totally hated Odo’s dad the first few times I met him, for sure. He reminded me of my own stupid mother at the time. Trying to take credit for all that Odo has ever done. My mom always told me she brought me into this world, and she could take me out of it. Or she could and would make my life a living hell if I didn’t comply to her commands. I feel a lot of that sort of energy in this guy, Dr. Mora. Odo tries to point out, repeatedly, that his childhood was bullshit. He tells Dr. Mora to his face, that the way he handled Odo did damage, and that he is not ready to forgive Mora. When he says he does not trust Dr. Mora, dude takes offense af. As though the ends justify the means. Later on, we see Odo have to use those same methods, and I again, feel like it is just a shitty situation for Odo to be in. We see down the line that Las never mentions the need for assistance in finding his own sentience, and we see it impact Odo deeply. You see the envy in Odo’s eyes as he looks at Las at first, seeing what he always assumed was his true potential. I think Odo resents Mora for taking credit in bringing Odo to a self-aware state. This is a natural process of his development, and it definitely happened on its own sooner or later. It saps Odo to feel that Mora some how shaped him, and with torture no less. He hates to think that his agency and intelligence should somehow be imparted by anyone else.I feel this in so many ways. They never mention that Mora tried to keep in contact with Odo, so we don’t know if he did. He definitely sees Odo as something different than a son, but he still tries to impart a fatherly role. This is how I felt growing up, my parent did not care what I was as long as I was compliant. My parent didn’t see me as my own individual, but as an accomplishment of her own design. I hated that. Poor Odo. Hard to see that someone cares when all they can see you as is a trophy. Their trophy.
