Hiya! I just wanted to say that I love your human robot overwatch art and was wondering how you manage to get the anatomy proportions right? I'm a learning artist and am finding it hard. xx
thanks for messaging me! im still in the process of learning anatomy myself but i’ll tell you what i’m doing to try and improve and hopefully that will be helpful!
the biggest thing for me has just been practicing a lot from references. consistently doing a whole lot of very quick messy gesture drawings, ignoring most of the details and just focusing on the pose and proportions of the figure, has been more helpful to me than doing fewer, more accurate finished pieces. quickposes is a pretty good site for this bc it has a decently large reference library and a built-in timer. and when i’m drawing my own stuff i still work from references as much as possible, it really makes a difference!
i’ve also found it’s helpful when starting a drawing to sketch out the whole pose very lightly and make sure it’s correct before working on details. i feel like my drawing has improved a lot since i started thinking of it in terms of doing drafts - first a rough draft of the whole image to work out the anatomy and composition, and then editing mistakes and gradually adding more detailed features
and it’s important to be patient with yourself! it’s a complex subject, i find it hard too. improvement happens slowly and can be hard to see sometimes, but it’s still there! i hope this helps, good luck :)
