7-sentence meme!! Catelyn/Cersei & Lysa/Cersei, jealousy (GIMME GIMME)
She knows herself a beautiful woman. Thereās scarcely been need for doubt; as a girl in the Riverlands, sheād received constant, consistent praise- her fatherās hedge knights, lauding her rich russet hair and bright blue eyes- Petyr, waxing poetic about the curve of her neck and the height of her cheekbones- and then, in her marriage bed, the taciturn, silent Ned Stark, climaxing inside her as he suckled her teat, tugging his fingers through her hair and exclaiming over its beauty, itsĀ ācrimson splendorā-
(The words sounded far too deliberate and far too eloquent for her curt Northern husband, but she relished them all the more for their novelty.)
But when the Handās wife watches the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms float through the Great Hall, her curls a golden balefire, her green eyes bright and vibrant, her full breasts swelling like those of the Mother, her sweet lips curving into secret smiles, smiles received and echoed by no one-
(Save her handy mirror, her twin who stands guard at the other end of the hall, mimicking her every expression, channeling her every emotion...)
Catelyn canāt help but think it a shame, that King Robert doesnāt recognize the rare, elusive beauty heās acquired in his wife. But then, perhaps most men consider themselves deserving of finery, would never seek to question their claim to a beautiful woman, a woman of means and power and influence, a woman who shall, who will be queen...
(But Ned knows it, recognizes his ladyās strengths and weaknesses, her wants and needs and ambitions and flippant fancies. And for that, sheās endlessly grateful.)
And when Brandon was murdered and Father told me I must wed his brother, I did so gladly, though I never saw Nedās face until our wedding day. I gave my maidenhood to this solemn stranger and sent him off to his war and his king and the woman who bore him his bastard, because I always did my duty.
@starkfish: Rebellion-era Catelyn or Rebellion-era Cersei
I was tagged by @starkfish - thank you so much!!!! This is so much fun!!! :)
Rules: list ten of your favorite characters in ten different fandoms and then tag ten people.
Andrea Wyatt, The West Wing - I also LOVE other characters on the show and probably more than Andy (like CJ and Toby), but Iāve been obsessing about her these last weeks
Ian Murray (senior), Outlander - heās back on TV and I think heās maybe my favorite male character of all time
Catelyn Stark, A Song of Ice and Fire - sheās tied with two other characters as my favorite in this fandom. But I just remembered this week how I got into Game of Thrones and sheās the reason, so sheās getting the top place today
Bellatrix Lestrange, Harry Potter
Poison Ivy, āDC Comicsā
Daredevil, āMarvel Comicsā
Chandler Bing, Friends
Han Solo, Star Wars
Charlotte Branwell, The Infernal Devices
Sophie, SAGA

Ned/Cat, 59!
I kind of hate you for this, Ashley! But um, here goes. The prompt isĀ āDonāt say you love me.ā And Iām actually writing something canon compliant . . . Ā So, um pain under the cut . .
starkfish replied to your post āOk, I try VERY hard to turn off the part of my brain that knows...ā
UCK I KNOW the Elizabeth of York/RIchard III thing is LE GROSSEST. Luckily I think after the first ep the show is kind of backing off there whereas the book is literally just EoY whining nonstop about how she misses Richard. (I do think a Henry VII faction was behind the Princes in the Tower deaths, though - Richard had made them illegitimate, Henry's faction needed them legitimate but removed)
I want to sit down with Phillipa Gregory and have a come to Jesus talk with her about Elizabeth of York/Richard III because what the fuuuuuuuck. whyyyyyy. But yeah, the second episode really seemed to back off of that so hopefully that holds true for the rest of the show!
The thing that keeps me from believing that a Tudor faction is responsible is that I donāt know that a True Believer Tudor supporter would have been able to get access to them. Unless you believe they were murdered post-Bosworth. idk idk. Most of the aristocracy strike me as opportunists more than anything, so I donāt know that I believe that there was any Tudor supporter passionate enough about the cause and with access to the Tower to do it.
But itās one of those mysteries of history that I doubt weāll ever know definitively.
Also I think that historically thereās no way that one of the princes escaped to Burgundy. Sorry, show. But that kid died in the tower too. It makes for a fun story though! So Iāll let it slide for the sake of the dramatic tension of āomg will Lizzie support her brotherās claim to the throne or her husbandās/sons?ā
Lysa/Petyr, #47!
āIāve been in love with you for years.ā
The words slid off his tongue without a thought behind them. He had practiced them often enough before this, just as he had made every act of his a play, so that he did not need to submit himself to drink in order to say them without a stutter. He preferred his mind to be sharp and his actions precise, especially with her, though he told himself that it was just sound advice and nothing more.Ā
Lysa stared up at him with wide and foolish eyes. She herself was dulled by wine and giddy, her cheeks red. In these moments it was impossible to see her as the adult she was, everything in her demeanor marking her as the girl of Riverrun. The contrast between that and the way age had settled on her turned his stomach but he did not let it show. He had always been good at that.Ā
āI knew,ā she giggled, burying her head against his lap. She had thrown herself at his feet when they entered his rooms, laughing and loudly whispering that they must be quiet. Petyr had braced himself against his chair and allowed his hand to wind through her hair, focus on those threads of auburn rather than anything else.Ā
His mouth was dry. He wished he had something to drink but forced himself to stay put, to keep her at his feet, under his hand. This was important, this was all part of the plan, part of the snare.Ā
He felt her kiss his thigh through his stockings and focused his eyes on the rich fabrics that lined his bed.
