Collaborative product development: Engaging stakeholders through mapping and co-creation.
At Shariwaa, we believe that collaborative product development is the key to creating innovative products that meet the needs of diverse stakeholders. In today's fast-paced business environment, it's more important than ever to engage stakeholders throughout the product development process, from ideation to launch. That's why we've developed a unique approach to collaborative product development that leverages mapping and co-creation to bring together diverse perspectives and ideas.
Collaborative Product Development: Engaging Stakeholders Through Mapping and Co-Creation :
In this article, we'll take a deep dive into our approach to collaborative product development, exploring the key techniques and tools we use to engage stakeholders and drive innovation. We'll cover everything from stakeholder mapping and persona development to ideation sessions and rapid prototyping.
Stakeholder Mapping: Identifying Key Players and Perspectives
The first step in our approach to collaborative product development is stakeholder mapping. We work with our clients to identify all of the key players involved in the product development process, from end-users and customers to internal stakeholders like product managers, engineers, and designers.
Once we've identified all of the key players, we develop a detailed stakeholder map that captures their perspectives and priorities. This map serves as a guide throughout the product development process, ensuring that all stakeholders are heard and their needs are addressed.
Persona Development: Creating Empathy and Understanding
With our stakeholder map in hand, we move on to persona development. Personas are fictional characters that represent different types of users or customers. By creating personas, we can better understand the needs and motivations of different stakeholders and design products that meet their specific needs.
Our persona development process involves extensive research, including interviews with real users and customers. We use this research to create detailed personas that capture the key attributes and pain points of each stakeholder group.
Ideation Sessions: Generating Ideas and Solutions
With our stakeholder map and personas in place, we move on to ideation sessions. Ideation sessions are collaborative brainstorming sessions where stakeholders come together to generate ideas and solutions.
Our ideation sessions are highly structured, with clear goals and constraints. We use a variety of ideation techniques, including brainstorming, mind mapping, and design thinking. The goal of these sessions is to generate a large number of ideas that can be evaluated and refined in the next phase of the product development process.
Rapid Prototyping: Bringing Ideas to Life
Once we've generated a large number of ideas, we move on to rapid prototyping. Rapid prototyping is the process of creating low-fidelity prototypes that can be quickly tested and refined.
Our rapid prototyping process is highly iterative, with multiple rounds of testing and feedback. We use a variety of prototyping techniques, including paper prototyping, wireframes, and interactive prototypes. The goal of this process is to quickly iterate on ideas and create a final product that meets the needs of all stakeholders.
Conclusion: Collaborative Product Development for Innovation
At Shariwaa, we believe that collaborative product development is the key to creating innovative products that meet the needs of diverse stakeholders. By leveraging mapping and co-creation techniques, we bring together diverse perspectives and ideas to drive innovation and create products that truly make a difference.

Logos over Words
One of our most frequently deployed tools in FrontierEnvoy's stakeholder mapping work and FrontierCulture's culture audits in 2014 - a simple deck of corporate logos.
Instead of asking interviewees to generate words to express their views on a subject, we start by harnessing billions of dollars of brand equity and asking questions like "Which brand represents the level of customer service you're offering to the market?" "Which logo represents the brand you would like your organization to be for your industry?" From there, discussion flows.. and flows... and flows.
Frontier Coordinates - Week of December 1
We have four folks (RLW, KMB, TT and SW) leaving the warm December weather in RVA for even warmer weather in San Diego to conduct a board meeting with one of our clients. JAA and MT are in Winston-Salem facilitating a workshop on Executive Presence, while NG facilitates a tailored program in Dallas. Finally JH, our Frontier Academy program curator and coordinator extraordinaire won't be too far away in Washington D.C.
Frontier Coordinates - Week of October 27
In the windy city this week, KMB and TT meet with key personnel at the micro-finance non-profit The Accion Network. Meanwhile, SW, KC, and AB head north to spend a day in Newport, RI with clients. NG heads south to Dallas, TX, scouting experiences and locations (and testing the best foodie spots) in advance of a Fall immersion. And ST, KL, and JAA will be in NYC for client work, business development--and to test out Norwood's Autumn cocktail menu. As always, let us know if we're close enough to you to say hello.

Copper theft report.
Research, stakeholder and process mapping, design, for Designing Out Crime (DOC) research centre.
Copper is known as "poor man's gold", thanks to its ubiquity and cash value when traded at scrap metal dealers. In 2011 a working group was established to address the issue of copper theft and this report was designed to be a central reference point for this group. At this time there was no single or clearly defined "owner" of the copper theft problem, and no clear understanding of the problem across different stakeholder groups. This report displayed what was known about copper theft in a straightforward manner, visually mapping out processes and different stakeholders' relationship with the issue.
