This might have been our last show for awhile with all the cancellations, but I am SO PROUD of our progress over the past few months! I felt so prepared! Even if he was having an "up" day I knew I could bring him back down. His rhythm at every gait has gotten slower and steadier. He has begun to carry himself much more correctly instead of curling behind the bit and running. I have increasingly learned to really ride him, not just be along for the ride.
Unfortunately, the best laid plans of horse people are often thwarted by their own horses. After a stellar warm up, we started what felt like a great test. Relaxed, correct, but.... not entirely steady. What started as a slight stumble partway through the first trot tour became a definite irregularity by the final movement of the test. After he had some time to cool down we jogged him out, and who knows how or why, but he definitely had a low grade lameness by then. We scratched the rest of our tests for the weekend and he's getting a few days rest (he's looking much better already). C'est la vie. But no regrets, our lead up was solid and we'll be even more ready when show season starts back up (if it starts back up)!
