also i didn’t catch this on video bc my phone was dying at that point but joe keery said that the duffers really trust the cast when working out a scene. he said that they do blocking but they don’t necessarily “rehearse”. not traditionally at least i guess is what i took from it. he said there’s lots of laughing to when fleshing out a scene most of the time lol and cara said that the duffers “love watching” and she said it’s almost like childlike wonder while they’re directing.
so basically they give the cast a lot of flexibility (which is also something joe and cara articulated)

ST panel conducts ethnographic study The Chairman of ST Commission, S. Chellappa, on Monday conducted ethnographic study of the lifestyle and living standards of Kaithi Lambadas, also known as Mathuras, in three villages in Indervelli and Utnoor mandals. The study was part of the inquiry to assess whether the caste is eligible to be included in the list of Scheduled Tribes, a long-pending demand of the Mathuras. Mr. Chellappa was accompanied by Utnoor Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Project Officer R.V. Karnan during his visit to Andunaik tanda and Jalam tanda in Indervelli mandal and Salewada (K) in Utnoor mandal. He interviewed about 5 families at each place as part of the study. The Chairman was astonished when he found that the Mathura youth did not go for higher education despite the opportunities. He noticed that a majority of the youths dropped out after SSC. Mr. Chellappa asked them of their land-holding pattern, description of their marriage ceremonies and whether they are accessing governmental welfare programmes. Source: Hindu
