Perry and The Harmonics - "Do The Monkey With James" (Mercury cat. 72476 (For Broadcast Only / Not For Sale)) from the Intrigue With Soul LP. I love Crime Jazz, Spy, and 60's & 70's Action Sounds records. They don't have to be soundtracks or even by the original artists. Next Thursday, January 5 for the Big Lazy 20th Anniversary party, I get to play as many of them as I can fit into two hours. Easily one of the most difficult sets of music I have ever had to pull but will definitely be one of my favorites. The entire set will include Crime Jazz, Action Sounds, Latin, Soul, Funk and Instrumentals. Perry and The Harmonics was an Ed Townsend side project. The song starts with a vocal introduction about James Bond and after a brief sax intro breaks into one of the grooviest instrumentals ever recorded. Organ and drums drive the beat with the organ getting to stretch out into what would be a split reed sax solo holding a screaming note. Hear this and many more at Union Pool in Brooklyn with performances by Big Lazy and their guests including, percussionist Willie Martinez, Steven Bernstein on trumpet, accordionist Charlie Giordano, Peter Hess on Sax and Barbez. #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #recordcollection #recordcollector #biglazy #stephenulrich #barbez #unionpool #crimejazz #spythemes #actionsounds #soul #funk #boogaloo #instrumentals
