Okay, let's talk about you are cordially invited because I am weak for Spock/Una.
First of all, this fic shouldn't even exist. I was supposed to use the shore leave prompt for day one of Trektober 2023, but the Una/Ortegas fic I was writing didn't pan out at the last second. So I sat down and panic-wrote this one on the spot, start to finish, like you do, in about two hours before I posted it. And I stressed about it, man. I wanted to do as much of Trektober as I could and this was day frigging one and I was already off book. 💀
I toyed with using Pike and Una for the rebound sex prompt, but ultimately didn't find anything satisfying. Spock and Una rebound sex, on the other hand... there was something there. They're fun to write because they're so similar but they come by the similarity in different ways for different reasons.
The first version of the story had them on the Enterprise, but I swapped the setting to a hotel to make everything feel more like a deviation from their normal professional relationship. This is not a permanent thing. This is not a thing we do on the ship. But this is a thing that we can do to try to help one another through this difficult time of seeing our preferred partners move on without us, a way to grieve a little together while presenting a happy face to our friends.
