Also, for some reason whever I read her stories I am completely mystified and cannot stop. To be honest, she is one of the writers I reread most often, because her fics offer so much new to discover every time. She’s freaking talented and deserves some love her way. Favorite completed fic: Holy shit. This one here is one of my most underrated favorites!

Extenuating Circumstances ( Written for the OQ Week Masquerade prompt on Tumblr. Alternate Universe. Thievery, daring rescues, heartfelt conversations, dancing, and swearing. Robin Locksley, grieving widower, attempts to steal from Leopold King during his masquerade party, but gets more than he bargained for when he runs into King's wife, Regina, who has a secret of her own. )

Favorite WIP: It’s one that I have high high hopes she is going to continue one day...

First Day ( Written for the Time Travel/AU prompt for the second OQ Week on Tumblr. OQ fluff with a dash of plot. )

Favorite OS: Once again I’m having a super hard time to chose... but I’m gonna cheat and give you two. Well, technically, I’m not cheating because the first one isn’t really OQ... It’s Bandit OQ with Evil CHarming and damn it I’ve read this fic like 20 times. One of the best bandit fics out there.

✨ Send Me a Character: Beverly Crusher ✨

Yesss. Before there were terms like “The Character,” there was how I felt about Beverly Crusher. Thank you, @fiadorable! ❤️

My first impression: She’s the ship’s doctor and a mom? Cooooooool!

My impression now: I love that she was the moral compass of TNG. And yet, maybe it was my early viewing of The Cage, but I feel like TNG-era Beverly Crusher put herself in a mental cage. Maybe due to grief, maybe due to something else. We see it most in Remember Me when her imagined reality literally constricts around her. But we also see it in Attached where she says fear is the reason she doesn’t want to explore her and Picard’s feelings for each other. So there’s a tragedy to Beverly Crusher, a self-encasement of fear and projected loss, and that makes me sad (though I think it’s reasonable within the narrative).

Favorite thing about that character: In addition to her TNG-era morality and her skill as a doctor, I love Beverly’s sense of humor. That scene in Brothers where tells the old joke to the sick child? Adorable. Picard calling her out in Attached for always having “some acerbic remark on the tip of your tongue”? Hah! There’s a tinge of sadness to both examples (the fact that the child is sick and the accidentally hurt feelings that led to Beverly no longer saying the acerbic remarks), but that’s Beverly. Also, I love that she’s the Dancing Doctor.

Least favorite thing: Perfect segue! In Data’s Day, I feel like Crusher doesn’t like to think about being the Dancing Doctor and possibly was made to feel embarrassed about it. As if the future can’t value both dancing and medical skills (precision, attention to detail, physical and anatomical awareness, I could go on).

Favorite line/scene: It’s iconic, but: “If there's nothing wrong with me, maybe there's something wrong with the universe.” Now that’s some confidence right there, and well-earned in the reality of the episode.

Favorite interaction that character has with another: Helping Hugh get his name. Picard assisting her off the floor in Remember Me. Deep breaths as she holds onto the poles with Geordi in Disaster.

A character that I wish that character would interact with more: Her own son. As the parent of a kid growing up in space, not as a colleague to a quasi-officer because the show put a kid on the ship then didn’t know how to have him be a kid as opposed to an adult in training.

Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character: Recall that I was a child watching TNG. So … yeah, Ariel the mermaid from The Little Mermaid.

A headcanon about that character: As a small child on Luna, Beverly Howard would look at the Earthglow and the stars and feel like the luckiest kid in the universe.

A song that reminds of that character: When TNG was airing and Crusher would come on, my dad would sing the, “Doctor, doctor, give me the news,” lyric from Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor) by Robert Palmer. So that’s a Beverly Crusher song for me.

An unpopular opinion about that character: Is it unpopular to say I think her character may be technically alive but assassinated by the narrative of Star Trek Picard?

The genesis of the longfic (This Time: A Love Story) starts with my family leaving Costco. I was thinking about how other American stores with huge square footage freaked people out (or flopped) when companies tried to duplicate that model in cultures where stores are usually smaller.

Which led me to wonder … what would it be like for people in a Trek-style post-capitalist economy to encounter a stereotypical, American superstore?

What would it be like for Christopher Pike and Una Chin-Riley, specifically, to encounter a stereotypical, American superstore?

I instantly decided I didn’t want write a time travel fic, didn’t want to put these characters near our own time (as themselves as opposed to in a modern AU), and I didn’t want to deal with another multi-chap.

But I got that tingling in my fingers that meant it didn’t matter what I wanted — I’d be writing that story.

Oh, and, of course, needless to say, the whole post-capitalism interrogation of American commerce doesn’t really happen in the fic. There is a “store that sells almost everything,” but Chris and Una have been scrambling in the past long enough that when they encounter what I want to believe is Target but know in my heart is Walmart, they think it’s neat. (As a friend of mine says: nothing is out of character if you back it up enough. Fingers crossed I backed that up enough to be believable.)

I hope to begin editing this week. It’s “time” for this story to start getting out there — on post-capitalist AO3!

🛌 What's a trope you haven't written, but want to?

I consulted Fanlore’s list of tropes and I’d like to finish my one-shot that I didn’t realize was the Soulbond trope. Also, looking at the list, Noir Detective AU looks like it could be fun. I’m not so familiar with the genre, but I am with the mimicry of it (Dixon Hill, etc.), so maybe that could help?
