Ballast Point’s Spruce Tip Sculpin IPA (on tap at BJ’s in Mission Valley). A 4 of 4. Honestly, of the Sculpin varieties, easily my favorite so far. What you’d expect out of the standard Sculpin, but this has a lot of woody and pine character up front that is a refreshing change of pace from so many tropical-forward IPAs today. Firm bitterness in the body, and finishes dry with just a bit of piney, almost gin-like notes from the spruce.Â
