Do you accept that future consequence? The what if? The unknown responsibility of allowing others to be damaged because of your actions? 

After she finished the book, she would put it down, walk back into the house and grab the keys before leaving. Every morning, she woke up as she turned to the last page of the book. But she knew that if she could just hold on for a moment longer, just one last page, then she would be able to drive away. 

This morning had been different. She woke up when she normally began to dream with her faded white dress folded ready to wear. With practiced ease, she slipped into it and collected her book before making coffee. She followed the routine she dreamed every night perfectly - the coffee tasted slightly burnt, the sun skirted the roof as she began to read. 

When she left, she would drive out of town to New Orleans. There, no one knew her and she could get a job at a second-hand bookstore, saving up for a one-way ticket to Japan. She could picture herself standing on the streets of Ometesando, faded white dress and a light blue cardigan. The sweet aroma of coffee covered her, a sweet memory of her half-day shift at the cafe. She couldn’t speak Japanese, but she would learn.
