Zesty Grapefruit Poppy Seed Cake

Tart grapefruit juice swirled through tender crumb with poppy seeds adding little bursts of flavor throughout. The citrus brightness cuts through the sweetness, making this cake feel lighter than it actually is.

Enjoy this delicious BBQ brunch in honor of spring. It has perfectly grilled salmon, tender-crisp asparagus, and tangy Greek yogurt on toasted sourdough slices. The sweet and salty glaze gives the juicy salmon fillets a big flavor boost.

Ingredients: 1.5 lbs salmon fillets. 1/2 cup maple syrup. 1/4 cup Dijon mustard. 2 cloves garlic, minced. 1 teaspoon smoked paprika. Salt and pepper to taste. 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed. 1 tablespoon olive oil. 8 slices sourdough bread. 1/2 cup Greek yogurt. 1 lemon, sliced for garnish.

Instructions: Warm the grill up to a medium-high level. Add maple syrup, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to a small bowl. Mix these ingredients together to make the glaze. Use a brush to cover both sides of the salmon fillets evenly with the glaze. Flake the salmon with a fork after grilling it for 4 to 5 minutes on each side. Sprinkle salt and pepper on the asparagus and toss it in olive oil. About 34 minutes on the grill until tender-crisp. For one to two minutes on each side, toast the sourdough slices on the grill. Toast some sourdough slices and spread Greek yogurt on them. Put grilled salmon and asparagus on top of each slice. Add lemon slices as a garnish and serve right away.

Over the past weekend we hosted a small spring brunch for close friends and family on Easter Sunday.  The design elements of this Spring Brunch could carry seamlessly to a bridal shower or wedding.  We hope you will find inspiration for your next celebration! 

We started the tablescape design with the floral centerpiece.  The goal was to make the centerpiece appear as a garland or table-runner of florals.  

The Poppies, Anemones, and Queens Lace were placed in depression glass coupes doubling as vases.  Exquisite from every angle. 

We set the table with wood chargers, vintage crystal dinner plates, teacup/coffee-cup & saucers, antique gold flatware, crystal coupes, gold rimmed crystal flutes, and crystal water goblets. It was fresh and sparkly!
