UNCONVENTIONAL CONVERSATIONS with Haider Ackermann. Interview by Maria Luisa for The Corner. Haider talks his OPIUM men’s collection and Spring 2011 Women’s ready to wear.
Haider has always been such a romantic, as far as my studies have taught me. There is something so metaphorically poetic about using designs to communicate the balance between fragility and strength. Mystery and assertiveness. Light and shadow. It’s modern. It reminds me of the message Alexander McQueen stood so firmly in with his hauntingly beautiful designs. He wanted people to “fear” the women in his designs, and I love the juxtaposition of a woman in a high fashion look possessing that kind of power. Soft, but commanding. Haider’s women of Spring 2011 don’t whisper—they mfn HAUNT!
