I know this probably wont be how it works but after you said those scars came from change your mind, I thought about how this Steven would even be separated. I still dont know what would be pulled out, but what I do know is I saw Steven and his cap moving on it's own which is an absolutely horrifying concept.
A/n: Cap-shells are just that: Shells. Theyโre meant to resemble the pellicle in mycology: the outer, peelable skin layer of a mushroom. Itโs a protective layer, and considering that the fungal gems donโt have gemstones to speak of, thereโs nothing else that could logically become their respective weapons, so thatโs what I went with. In fact, that was one of the first things I had decided on. Hereโs one of the original sketches of what Steven summoning his shield would look like, from way back when I was just starting to plan out this AU:

Steven is controlling his cap-shell movement. Think of it as a sort of shapeshifting, if you will! In fact, heโs going to use it like that a lot, later, once he gets the hang of it.Steven, in this universe, is part gem in pretty much every single cell in his body. The center of a gemโs being is very different in this AU, and youโve already seen hints of what that is. Pearl will likely explain it to you all once she calms down.
