Freaky deep sea mermaid is coming along nicely! The inking is taking forever but what’s more, I think this is the most trouble I’ve ever had with the SKETCHING process! Let’s have a count:
- She’s hyperextensive, with super long arms, and one arm is extended and in a weird position. I looked up muscle diagrams, I flexed my own hyperextensive arms in the mirror, I tried figuring out where the major muscle masses were... I think it works now? Mercifully I decided to put her other arm behind her body while I was sketching this all out.
- She has weird fantasy facial anatomy and no nose. Not even a Voldemort slit nose. She’s gonna have gills on her neck (though it’s tempting to give her axolotl gills, her hair would tangle in them, so they’ll be “normal” fishy gills).
- THE WITCH HANDS. I SPENT SO LONG ON THE WITCH HANDS. They have webbing and mega-long fingers and they had to be proportional to each other without being anywhere near proportional to the body. I still think the hand near her tail could be a fair bit longer. And keeping the fingers the consistent amount of pointiness has been surprisingly difficult.
- I don’t even know what her hair is but I kind of love it. Maybe eventually she’ll have a shark tooth crown holding it back or something? Trophies from her kills?
Eventually I’m going to try to make her into a digital painting, but first she’s going to be a lined/colored work because I know I can actually finish that.
You guys, it’s 2am. ;_; whyyy do I love this freaky mermaid so muchhhhh
Program is FireAlpaca, I’m just using the marker brush from the default set for inking. I have Adobe Suite but ehhhh... not the hugest fan of Ps for straight up digital art. FA works really nicely for me.
