Personality:

Spindle is calm and collected. He’s easily (mildly) irritated, sure, but he never allows his irritation to cloud his vision and judgement. Even in situations where stakes are high, he never lets his emotions get the better of him. He’s truthful but blunt. Not overly rude (unless the person he was talking to was really asking for it), but he’s not afraid to snap someone back to reality. His personality type is ISTJ, if you couldn’t already tell. While he’s not overly rude to people to their face, you can bet he is thinking and/or whispering insults in his head/under his breath. If he’s whispering the insults under his breath and you hear him, he will flat out deny it.

Most people have a hard time getting close to him. Spindle deliberately keeps people at arms length. He likes it that way, for the most part. Less people to worry about, less hurt he feels when he loses them. It’s easier to go about life that way. Which is why he’s always annoyed when Deuce and Ace pull him into whatever first year shenanigans is going on. Spindle has the tendency to see the worst in people first before he sees the good in them. This causes him to look down on others. Someone would have to get close to him first before he realizes their not that bad, but since he keeps them all at arms length, it’s an endless cycle.

If you manage to get through his walls, however, you’ll find…

…that he is almost exactly the same personality wise. Although he mostly stays the same, there are a few changes. Even if he has a hard time showing it, he’s fiercely loyal to and protective of those he cares about. He insult those he cares about openly, but the insults in question are more like playful jabs. He’ll be a bit more open with people he cares about and give them advice that isn’t backhanded (his way of showing affection).

Backstory:

During the climax/towards the end of the Human VS. Fae War, there was a powerful fae. She lived in a tower in Briar Valley, just far enough to avoid the war and any conflict. However, she was lonely. So, thanks to magic, she created a child. The child was named Spindle. The fae raised Spindle with love, but also made one thing very clear: humans were dangerous. From a young age, Spindle learned how to defend himself with daggers and magic. She never let Spindle wander further than the clearing in the forest where the tower was. Despite the warnings, Spindle was a curious child - like all children are - and he couldn’t help but wonder what was beyond where he was allowed to explore. After years of begging his mother, she agreed to take him on a stroll through the forest. On the walk, Spindle had skipped ahead of his mother, taking everything in. But while Spindle stayed ahead, his mother had heard something - people. Not just people, angry humans coming for fae blood. The fae ran to her child and told him to run before pushing him off. Spindle was scared, but he did as he was told and ran. When he looked back, his mother was being slaughtered. They were killing her and there was nothing he could do. He wasn’t sure how long he had been in the forest by himself for, all he knows is one day he had run into young Silver who had been taking a walk through the forest. Spindle had almost skewered Silver with his dagger right then and there. Somehow, Silver managed to coax Spindle into not killing him and getting the little fae to follow him back to Lilia. The rest is history. Like, a lot of history.

Extra:

Spindle’s dagger is a gift from his mother. He got the dagger around age four and was absolutely thrilled at the time. It has a magestone on it he will eventually use, but for now he uses the pen NRC provides for magic and the dagger for - well - normal dagger purposes.

He had to eat a lot of berries while he was alone in the forest, so eating them just reminds him of his time alone. Hence why he doesn’t like them.

Spindle had spent a lot of time alone in the forest. He hated every second of it. Lilia made him join Mountain Lovers Club because A) nothing else really peaked Spindle’s interest and B) it could act as light exposure therapy. Spindle was a little more than annoyed at first, but he eventually came to enjoy it because birds. (He had heard stories about the Leech twins so he was - though he would never admit it - a little nervous about being in a club with one, but Jade welcomed him with open arms, considering Spindle was the second official member).

Spindle thought all kids were made with magic … poor Malleus had to explain- (Lilia was too busy laughing).

Lilia calls Spindle Thorn or Lil Thorn sometimes on account of his horn.
