Newt has offered to let Jacob help him look after the magical beasts again. This time, he has an Acromantula family with spiderlings he has to tend to. It takes a moment for Jacob to understand what this actually entails...
Late...again. What else is new? Oh well. I brought back Newt Scamander! Hope you all enjoy!
Newt climbed into the suitcase before Jacob, to get to his large sanctum. Now, Jacob had been in the suitcase a few times now, and was no longer as scared of the creatures. Though this was in part due to Newt desensitizing him to the creatures, Newt still found it very helpful having another helper in his suitcase occasionally.Â
Besides: This time, Newt had a large amount of tasks to do today. He had to feed the creatures, tend to the Grindylowâs, and add more empty light bulbs to the Light bulb habitat. The first two tasks were standard stuff he did on the daily. But the light bulb task? Not so much. What happened was, Newt had recently brought more glow worms into his suitcase. As a result, he needed to provide the glow worms more light bulbs to make sure each one has its own to thrive in.Â
With Jacob on board, all of these tasks were done in the matter of an hour.Â
But unbeknownst to Jacob, Newt had saved his favorite task for last.Â
âWhere are we now?â Jacob asked.Â
âWeâre in another habitat I made especially for the Acromantulas.â Newt told him.Â
âWhat are acromantulas?â Jacob asked.Â
âI guess in your world they would be called spiders.â Newt explained.Â
âO-OhâŠâ Jacob froze up with nervousness. âS-Spiders?âÂ
âOhâŠRight, are you nervous around spiders?â Newt asked him.Â
âUh- Oh! No no no.â He shook his head and scoffed, waving his hand. âNah, Iâm not bothered by them. Theyâre small little things. Easy to deal with.â He told him.Â
âOkay good.â Newt told him. âThe mother was expecting, and eggs were pretty much ready to hatch last I checked.â Newt told him, leading him through the big habitat.Â
Jacob could feel the anxiety worsening with every sentence. âD-Did you s-sayâŠB-Babies?â Jacob asked.Â
âYup.â Newt replied. âAnd if Iâm correct, then the babies shouldâve hatched this morning.â Newt climbed up a rock, and landed on the ground in front of it. âWhich means I need to introduce myself.â Newt told him.Â
Jacob let out a shaky breath. âOh boyâŠâ He mumbled, patting his forehead with a handkerchief. The man was visibly nervous.Â
âTheyâre currently residing in a habitat somewhat similar to where the Nundu resided.â Newt told him. âOnly difference was, this rainforest looked more like the rainforests in Indonesia.â He told him.Â
Jacob bit his lip. âUh huh?âÂ
Newt kept going. âThough I would normally try to save room by putting the Acromantulas into the Nundu habitat, the mother was expecting babies at the time.â Newt explained. âAnd you can probably imagine my fear of the Nundu killing the Acromantula couple in their most vulnerable state.â Newt explained.Â
Newt and Jacob finally reached the nesting grounds of the Acromantula family.Â
âOOOoohmygod theyâre hugeâŠâ Jacob muttered.Â
âRIght, forgot to mention that. Theyâre quite giant.â Newt mentioned. âAlso, please keep a good distance from them. Humans are their prey, and youâll be caught if youâre not careful.â Newt told him.Â
âOooookayâŠâ Jacob moved a good 20 feet away, and sat himself down on a rock. âIâm gonna need a secondâŠâ He muttered.Â
âTake your time.â Newt told him from the nest. Newt looked up to the Acromantulas and petted the motherâs head quite gently. âHello big girl.â Newt greeted. âDoing well now?â He asked. And there, on the motherâs back, were all her babies. âAnd look at all of youâŠâ Newt looked at all the babies. âA large litter of spiderlings.â Newt reacted. âHello little guys.â Newt greeted. âHow many have we got here?â He asked aloud. âI think there mightâve been up to 50 spiderlings per egg.â Newt said.Â
âF-fiftyâŠâ He mumbled, his face growing more and more white.Â
âI believe so.â Newt said. âAnd thatâs relatively low compared to most egg sacs.â Newt added. He placed his hand under one of the spiderlings, and picked it up. âLook at youâŠâ Newt held the spider in both his palms âYouâre a healthy one, arenât you?â Newt reacted calmly.Â
âS-SoâŠY-youâre not afraid of th-them?â Jacob asked.Â
âNot even a little. Theyâre absolutely fascinating to me.â Newt told him, reaching his hand up and placing the spiderling onto the Acromantulaâs back. âThe spiderlings themselves are relatively harmless.â Newt unbuttoned his coat as he walked up to Jacob. âCan you take this?â He asked, handing him the blue coat.Â
âS-Sure.â Jacob said, taking it for him, before checking vigorously for any spiders hidden in the coat. But the pockets were relatively empty besides his wand.
âThe spiderlings are rather curious little creatures.â Newt admitted, placing his hand onto the back of the Acromantula mother. âWanna see how I get them used to me?â Newt asked.Â
âS-Sure! Sure.â Jacob admitted, trying to put on a brave face again.Â
âAre you sure? I will warn you, itâs a little scary to watch if youâre scared of spiders.â Newt admitted. âBut I assure you, theyâre quite harmless.â He reminded him.Â
âYeah, I wanna see what you do.â Jacob replied.Â
âAlright.â Newt unbuttoned 2 of his top buttons before placing his hand onto the Acromantulaâs back.Â
Jacob watched as a bunch of the spiderlings crawled onto Newtâs hand, and down his arm to his shirt. Though Jacob was horrified at first, he calmed slightly when he saw Newtâs eager, crooked smile. It looked like a bunch of the spiderlings were moving down his arm and both into, and on top of Newtâs shirt.Â
âIhitâs been forever since I fehelt thihis.â Newt admitted, letting a few giggles slip.Â
Jacob, to be frank, was a little perplexed. âFelt what?â He asked.Â
âSihince Ihihi fehelt-â Newtâs arm began to pull away from the spiderâs back as bits of giggles and laughter left his mouth. âHehehehe- HahahaHA!âÂ
Jacob dropped his jaw. âAre you okay?!â He stood up from the rock with his eyes widened. âYou look like youâre gonna fall any second!âÂ
âS-Stahahay bahack, Ihiâm fine, ihihihiâm fihine!â He told him. âIhihiâll just-â Newt carefully laid himself down onto the ground to save himself from injury. âThehehere.â He said. When Newt was on his back, the spiderlings seemed more than happy to truly explore their first human. âOhohokahay, GAHAHAhahahaha! Gohohoho nuhuhuts!âÂ
âOhoho my god!â Jacob reacted, watching the whole thing. âIs this a normal occurrence for you?!â Jacob asked him.Â
âHahahaha! Sohometihihimes! D-Dehehepehends ohohohon the spihihiderlihihings.â Newt admitted.Â
âSo you just let themâŠtickle you?â Jacob asked.Â
Jacob watched on as Newt was continuously swarmed by spiders, and presumably explored. But it looked more like the spiderlings were doing more tickling than exploring. Jacob could only imagine that this type of exploration was supposed to tickle. But if that was the case, then why didnât Newt mention this before?!Â
Although, we are talking about the same person who didnât mention that Acromantulaâs are a million times bigger than muggle-spiders.Â
âCahaharefuhuhul! Ohoho jeeeheeheeheezâŠâ Newt muttered. It was clear he was beginning to realize the situation he willingly put himself into.Â
âOh godâŠâ Jacob seemed to realize this too. âDo they know when to stop?â Jacob asked.Â
âIhihihi dohohonât- AAHAHAA! Ihi dohohonât knohohow!â Newt admitted, rolling onto his left side. Unfortunately for Newt (And fortunately for Jacob), Newt had rolled towards JacobâŠmeaning Newtâs bright smile and giddy face was completely visible to his new friend.Â
Gosh, just seeing the joy on Newtâs face was enough to make Jacob laugh. âOhoho geez! Hahahaha! Thihis ihis awesohome!â He reacted.Â
Newt covered his face with his hands. âShuhuhut uhuhupâŠâ Newt whined.Â
This only made Jacob laugh even more! âDihid you just whine like a child?!â Jacob asked him.Â
âNohohohohoâŠâ Newt whined in the exact same tone.Â
âWohohowâŠYou even lie like one too!â Jacob reacted.Â
âSTAHAHAP!â Newt shouted at him.Â
âOkay, okay!â Jacob put his hands up in arrest. âIs there anything I can do to help? Anything at all?â Jacob asked.Â
âAh-â Jacob looked at the mother. âI donât think I can, NewtâŠâ One little snippet of information rang through his head:Â
[ âPlease keep a good distance from them. Humans are their prey, and youâll be caught if youâre not careful.â ]Â
Remembering this, Jacob knew he couldnât come closer for fear of the mother eating him. But his friend was gonna die of laughter if he didnât do anythingâŠ
Suddenly, the spiders paused their exploring! They just stood there in place. They didnât even flinch!Â
And then, as if nothing happened, all the spiderlings crawled off of Newt. While Newt laid limp on the ground, the spiders all crawled up their motherâs leg and onto their motherâs back again. How they knew to do that, Jacob had no clue.Â
Jacob ran up to Newt and knelt down to help him. âNewt! Are you okay?âÂ
Newt was laying there, giggling with a permanent smile on his face. âGoodnessâŠThahat wahahasâŠâ Newt giggled a little more. âTohohoo much.â He said, sitting himself up.Â
âLet me getcha up.â Jacob took his hand and pulled him onto his feet. When he was up, Jacob wrapped Newtâs arm around his shoulders, and helped him walk. âYou okay, buddy?âÂ
Newt giggled and snorted. âNever betteher.â Newt muttered.Â
Jacob shook his head as he laughed. This would be the perfect story to tell Queenie and Tina.Â
âUhuh yeah, sure, not for much longer, Mr. Serious.â
âWhere the hell did all this attitude come from?â
âItâs not attitude! Itâs confidence,â Finn showed a severely devious smirk, âYouâre about to be putty in my hands, Dameron.â
And the way Finn says his last name like that always made Poeâs knees start to jiggle, noticeable or not. But those wiggling fingers coming right at him made him gasp. And then the spidering up his sides made him choke on his gasp. And then the spidering skittered up to his ribs and with a targeted few pokes between said ribs, he was in hysterics. Stifled under his own giggles and love for his tormentor.
"Miles Morales finally feels like he gets this Spider-Man stuff⊠and then falls through a portal! But isnât the Web of Life & Destiny destroyed?" reads Marvel's description. "Maybe not, True Believer. But who spun this new web? Regardless, Miles finds himself at the center of a multiversal adventure that will feature a whoâs who of creators and characters as the series spins forward!"
