Peter finding out about Aunt May’s identity and realizing she’s risking her entire life to protect others. He wants her to stop, maybe even begs her to because he can’t lose someone after Ben, he just can’t…. She doesn’t stop.
it would add a little grey to this I think. Could lead to some high quality angst. Probably the reason he’s a villain in the first place.
I think not spiderman Peter would be a great foil for aunt may.
The theme of Spider-Man is responsibility, right? He’s not been forced into learning that yet. I think spider-may would be personal responsibility vs civil responsibility.
Three things:
1. You know the Spider-Man tradition of getting loved one taken hostage by villain? Usually girlfriend or may? Peter gets a turn but he’s no idea why. That’s how he find out. It’s terrifying for both of them in different ways.
2. He’s pissed. She wasn’t expecting that. She assumes it’s because she lied to him but… she’s wrong.
“I’m sorry, Peter. I didn’t want you to find out this way.”
“Find out? I don’t want to have ever found out! I don’t want this to be happening!”
He yells at her about being a hypocrite and how all her lectures about being careful was just to make up for her. She gets defensive and starts talking about saving lives but he cuts her off and says he doesn’t care. That’s not her fault! She shouldn’t care either! She was supposed to be there for him which is what he thought she was doing but apparently not! She snaps at him for being selfish.
He “You know what? Maybe I am being selfish! Maybe I have the audacity care about me and my aunt. Maybe this family needs to learn to be a little more selfish. Maybe my parents would still be here then, hmm? Maybe Uncle Ben would be.”
“Peter—“
“I am being ‘selfish.’ You’re the only one I have left… and you’re out there trying to get killed for a bunch of random people! That doesn’t have to be your job.”
