hi, i see your a speller and it seems interesting, i wouldlike to learn too (right now i need help to write messages) but i saw online that “facilitated communication” (that’s what they call it?) is unreliable? do you know if that’s true and why do people think that?
Think for ask. First, the various spelling methods that exist ( S2C, RPM, Speller’s Method, ext think that main three right now) and FC, similar, not same. Both used to support nonspeakers, but work different.
Note: We not had any formal spelling methods (yet) or FC and CRP (communication and regulation partner) (wifey/caregiver) has no formal training in any spelling methods or FC. Want to but haven’t gotten chance yet.
most of the stuff will see online about FC and spelling is fear mongering bullshit, written by people who refuse to listen to nonspeakers about our communication methods.
from what we understand a lot of the pushback against spelling and FC is connected to ABA. If nonspeakers an communicate they can’t treat us like we aren’t people anymore and they lose control of us and then they stop making so much money off us.
The spelling methods are literally just low tech aac with motor prompting to help us get our bodies to do what we want them to do. From what we understand, FC is similar, but we don’t know enough about it to explain. And google is all or almost all misinformation when it comes to FC.
