I'm writing a short little fanfic based off of SpellCheck (which is amazing btw!) and I was hoping you can answer a few questions for accuracy's sake. 1, the kingdom Melior is in is spelled Palatine, right? 2, is the looks-like-a-pizza-boy, jittery guard's name spelled Gil or Gill? And 3, how common is magic in this version of Earth? Does ~everyone~ have spellcasting ability, or just most, or is it pretty rare?

3) Magic accessibility is roughly based on DnD 5e rules, so in a nutshell: anyone can have magic, but the way you go about it depends on your resources, talents, and lineage. I’m sure this is grossly oversimplifying, so fellow DnD nerds, feel free to add info as needed, but:
If you are descended from a magical race and can instinctively use magic, you are a sorcerer
If you are a big fuckin nerd and have figured out how to use magic through the power of math and poetry alone, you are a wizard
If you are Carly Rae Jepsen and can use music as a spellcasting medium, you are a bard
If you can use your faith/devotion to a god as a spellcasting medium, you are a cleric (and if you still want to hit things with swords, but, y’know, for the Fantasy Christ Child) you are a paladin
If you went down to the crossroads and made a shady deal with a god to give you power, perhaps fiddles were involved, you are a warlock
So in short, like art, anyone can do magic! It’s just a question of your medium.
