Hi! I somehow never saw your Lego Monkie Kid artwork until now and I came across your video essay/speedpaint and I gotta ask. What are your thoughts now after the third season? I don't want to make this sound like I want you to do another video essay (you can if you want but I'm trying to not pressure you accidently) I just really wanted to hear your thoughts. Sorry, I'm kind awkward 😅
Oh hi! Thanks! No worries about the awkwardness; I'm glad you're making sure I don't feel pressured <3 Glad you enjoyed all my Lego Monkie Kid stuff, including my video essay!
Yeah, my video essay making has come to a stand-still as I work on other things, but I'm really happy about the ones I made! While I probably won't make another video, I'd be happy to write some of my thoughts on the show, as I've been keeping up with it, and have seen all of season 3 and the specials (no spoilers here to those worried).
In my original video I had only seen Season 1, and my main thesis (and title) of that video was that "Monkie Kid has Potential". I could tell that it was laying down a good groundwork and setting up for bigger things in later seasons. After having seen those later seasons, I think my main thoughts are that, it did indeed live up to that potential, and furthermore, exceeded my expectations! It took all the things that it started with, added onto itself, and wrapped itself up nicely by the end of season 3!
There are some things that I wish we got more of, and it does admittedly have a bad habit about forgetting to utilize some characters (Sandy for most of the series, Nezha in the S3 finale, Red Son for all of S2, etc). And also, while I think the pacing of the first season was really well done, it started feeling progressively rushed, especially by the time we got to the S3 finale.
But it was consistent in its action, emotion, animation, and themes, and I'm very happy and impressed with how it has turned out!
So yeah, that's my main thoughts on how the show is going. I hear that there's going to be more, perhaps? Either way, yeah, it's a fun show! And I definitely think I went from mild interest to adoration of it as a series, even going so far as to creating more artwork, and a practical novel of a fanfic, haha (check out that link if you're interested, I'm actually quite proud of it)(but also no pressure)!
Thanks for the ask and for checking out my art and video essay work! I hope you have a wonderful day!
