People are so weird about Ross, lmao.
Right lol. Like he isn’t perfect by any means but he’s still funny as hell. Also the show is almost 30 years old, of course aspects of it won’t age well and won’t align with all of our views and values currently. And it isn’t just Ross that does and says fucked up shit lol. All of them say insensitive things. It was the nineties. Doesn’t make it right but that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy the characters AND understand that certain things they say and do are wrong or bad.
@spectroscopes HE DEFINITELY DIDN’T
I think for the first line they patched together some preexisting audio, the way they did for Leia in Rise of Skywalker... BECAUSE CARRIE FISHER DIED, can you imagine still being alive and they pull that shit on your character? and then for the longer lines it was just... some dude that sounded nothing like Luke. Mark Hamill’s still out there doing voice work. my god, insulting.
Also, I wanted to put this in a different paragraph but tumblr is impossible for me, a boomer, to use but if if I wanted to get into Xena do you have a masterlist of good eps (like my old SV masterlist lmao)? (If you do pls answer publicly so everyone can benefit and I can reblog!)
OH HO HO. This made me rub my little goblin hands together with glee.
I sort of have a masterlist-ish. I tried to make a like “top 10 essential Xena episodes” list but I kept being like “but this one is only as good as it is if you have the CONTEXT of these six other episodes, like Ides of March is SO GOOD but you need the BUILD UP and also I can’t drop this one for lore reasons” so my top 10 list is got stalled at 65 episodes long lmao oops.
A couple of these are on the list when more entertaining episodes/straight up better are left off because of Plot and Lore purposes. I’ve gone through and starred some favs, though. One downside is that you’re going to be missing most of the pure comedy episodes so you won’t understand the true tonal whiplash this show embodies, but so it goes.
If you MUST watch only a handful of episodes, I’d say top 3 episode to watch if you want to get the concept, get the appeal, and see some fan fav episodes would be Sins of the Past, A Day in the Life, and One Against An Army.
Anyway here’s that big list:
Season 1:
Sins of the Past*
Dreamworker
The Reckoning
Hooves and Harlots
Beware Greeks Bearing Gifts
Ties That Bind
The Greater Good*
Callisto
Is There A Doctor in the House*
Season 2:
Orphan of War
Remember Nothing*
Return of Callisto
Intimate Stranger
Ten Little Warlords
Destiny*
The Quest
A Necessary Evil
A Day in the Life*
The Price
Season 3:
The Deliverer
Gabrielle’s Hope
The Debt p1 & p2*
Maternal Instincts*
The Bitter Suite*
One Against an Army*
When In Rome*
Forget Me Not (clip show but fucking…a good and important one)
Sacrifice p1 & p2
Season 4:
Adventures in the Sin Trade
Family Affair*
A Good Day*
Crusader*
Paradise Found*
Devi
Between the Lines
The Way
The Convert
Endgame
Ides of March*
Season 5:
Fallen Angel
Chakram
Succession*
Them Bones Them Bones
Seeds of Faith*
God Fearing Child
Amphipolis Under Siege
Kindred Spirits
Looking Death in the Eye
Livia
Eve
Motherhood
Season 6:
Coming Home
Who’s Gurkhan*
Legacy
The Abyss
The Rheingold*
The Ring*
Return of the Valkyrie*
Old Ares Had a Farm*
Path of Vengeance
To Helicon and Back
When Fates Collide*
Many Happy Returns* (this one isn’t even like, plot necessary but it’s emotionally necessary given how much the next one Hurts)
A Friend in Need
You may also consider going through and listening to each episode of Xena Warrior Podcast whilst watching, because they do a damn good job giving context to episodes via what shit Rob Tapert is referencing this week and what was going on at the time of airing. There is, for instance, some stuff in season 2 that is directly a result of Lucy having a horse accident filming a promotional bit that fucking broke her pelvis in several pieces, so YOU KNOW, context helps explain decisions sometimes.
ANYWAY EVERYONE WATCH XENA PLS.
Edited to add… there re some episodes on this list that are particularly problematic as helllll but still need to be on there. I’ve gone back and italicized them.
