It is absolutely not acceptable to message complete strangers and accuse them of “autogynephilia”. This is transmisogynistic rhetoric. The weaponisation of this term in this fandom is absolutely disgusting. It is bad enough that trans shippers are constantly having their identities invalidated over this ship without flinging about this harmful and triggering rhetoric. “Autogynephilia” is a concept which is used to invalidate trans women’s experience of gender dysphoria and frame their desire to access gender-affirming care as a sexual perversion. It is about demonising trans women’s relationships to their bodies and their sexuality. It has nothing to do with being attracted to or falling in love with someone external to you who you perceive to be “yourself, but female”, which is (1) not what sylki depicts and (2) completely fucking fine anyway. The only people who think there is anything wrong or deviant about “autogynephilia” are transmisogynists. I’m sick and tired of seeing this fundamentally transphobic idea spread about in this fandom in pursuit of trying to frame the ship as harmful. I can only hope that self-described Harry Potter fan @magiclovingdragon takes the time at some point to read Julia Serano’s thread on this topic and reconsiders whether twisting a trans woman’s words (which the entire project of framing sylki as “autogynephilia” was based on) and sending anonymous messages that sound almost identical to the messages TERFs send trans women on here is advancing the cause of trans rights.
