Good Intentions but Disrespectful
First and foremost, my statement is regarding some images I ran across my feeds on Facebook about “80 Syrians and Palestinians refugees that drowned in the Mediterranean close to the Libyan shores trying to reach Europe”
There are things that are okay to be posted online and others, well that shouldn’t be online at all. One of the main things that bother me are when people post or share images of children who are physically hurt, sick or dead. I understand that these people have good intentions into raising awareness for the public to do something about it. But, I also believe that there are many other ways to advocate in saving children lives. Images of children in bad condition are disturbing and disrespectful. Disturbing because kids at the age of 5 can get any sort of electronic device on their hands and scan through these pictures that their innocent eyes shouldn’t even look at in the first place. The last thing we want is to display to children is how awful the world can be. Now, it’s disrespectful for the children who suffer and disrespectful for the family. These are humans we’re talking about. They too have privacy of their own. It’s up to us to respect it.

Reality and Parents
Lying has become such an easy habit for me. I can come up with an excuse and a fake reason on the spot without hesitation if I really want something or have somewhere I want to go. It’s not something I’m proud of and I bring it up often. Where do you draw the line with lies? I’ve always heard my parents say sometimes it’s best not to tell people some things because it’s hurt they can live without but were also supposed to help each other carry our burdens. It’s difficult for me to find a happy medium. There are times when I lie about who I’m hanging out with because they know what I’m doing based on who I’m with and I know my mom won’t ask because we’ve made an agreement that she won’t ask unless she feels she has to know because it’s less for her to worry about. My mom loves me and my brothers more than anything and she struggles with the idea of losing us emotionally and physically. It breaks my heart so how do we as teenagers growing into capable adults, live our own successes and mistakes without hurting our parents to the point where they feel like they’ve done something wrong? I’ve always been safe, I’m smart, I have goals and ambitions that I’m not about to give up on, so don’t lose faith in me yet mom and dad.
