Magical Gnome Wedding Venue created by sydneymacoretta for The Sims 4 Sparkd Challenge
The Sims 4: Spark’d - Don’t Bother
I have so many thoughts about the first episode of this new reality show that I needed to write them down...
1. I was hoping for a fun, wholesome and creative reality show (similar to The Great British Bake Off) with charismatic hosts, judges with some legit Sims experience and genuinely lovely players with some friendly competition thrown in. OK so we got players who are popular and well-loved within the community and a Sims Guru was one of the judges...but that’s where the similarity ends.
2. The editing was so generic and overly-dramatic. That suits shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race but not a game people play to relax and have fun!
3. The Sims community is very loving, friendly & supportive. It would have been great for the show to reflect that more.
4. The challenges were just silly, especially the first one. Who can create Sims, build a decent house and make an impressive story in 90mins?
5. A lot of the players just looked uncomfortable. I felt anxious watching in places, and not in a good way. I especially felt bad for Steph when she froze :( I can’t watch people who aren’t having a good time.
6. Why on earth did they not introduce the players properly? I watch plumbella and know of a few of the others but I’ve never heard of the rest. If they don’t tell us who they are how can we be expected to care and support them?
7. Saying that, why include just Game Changers and label them the “top players”? They could have opened up applications to all Simmers, maybe giving lesser-known creators a chance to show their talents.
8. Also a shame there were only two guys...
9. A lot of people have said the storytellers can’t have been expected to create an engaging storyline when the story element of gameplay is so lacklustre to begin with. I totally agree. Funnily enough most of the players featured use CC and mods to flesh out their game >.<
10. Bit biased here but I’m sad Jesse (aka plumbella) didn’t get a lot of air time :( But I loved that the host was expecting her to add some drama and she was like “nah sorry luv”
that’s all I have to say. I might watch the next ep to see if it’s any better but my hopes are not high.
Yet again EA have missed an opportunity to create something new and special.
