ok something else has been on the mind lately as I trawl through dense academic texts. calling someone a staggering waste of carbon seems like an average tuesday for conferences and I think dr. ryland "unreliable narrator" grace might be exaggerating his whole "i could never work in academia again" thing
#space echoes#jeez been a while since i used my talking tag#phm#ryland grace#anyways. idk i might be wrong#cuz i havent reread the book in a while and i have memory issues#but i was thinkin abt this one article i read where the author is describing some random infighting in anthropology#and she says she was at a conference w europeans n americans#and she says one of the europeans joked to her that in my country such insults would be resolved with pistols at dawn#and i was like well ryland would fit right in#*thinks a minuye#then wait whyd he leave#and i do remember someone saying in the books to him 'you could have led that field if you didnt leave it'#so it sounds to MEE like grace said that and then went home and was like AAAAHHHH EVERYONE HATES MEEEEEE AAAAHHHH#and then quit his job and got hired in a middle school#that just sounds like something hed do
