imagine meeting him in one of the most embarrassing ways possible:
You grab your bag and say your farewells for the evening, leaving through the door and walking down the path.
You pass by the bakery, the clinic, even the park. You weren't quite ready to head home yet. You had a mission you needed to finish.
You walk until the the sounds of the town died out and you were surrounded by the comforting melody of chirping flickies in the trees and jipers hopping in the grass.
Eventually, you come to a stop, standing on a steep hill that overlooked the town from a good distance. A large tree conveniently shaded enough to seek rest there. So you decide to execute your plan here.
The project was easier said than done; find the perfect place to study using colors of your choosing. It could be anywhere you considered to be 'a new beginning'.
Your friends discussed with one another where they would go, who they would go with. But you went off alone to have some alone time. Some space to breathe and think.
This place will do nicely.
You sat on a root that was shaped upwards, making a decent stool. You pulled your book and your case of equipment out and place it on the ground. You look back at the town and then you begin to work.
It was nice, finally being able to think. You didn't mind being around others that much but it got overbearing quickly. You finished with a pale blue and allowed it to dry under the sun, taking the time to drink water from your bottle.
Spending time at home had it's perks, but it had way more flaws. Repetitive days, mental drops, failing to follow schedules, it drove you mad. So you stayed outside as long as you could to avoid it. You added the greys and browns, then the whites and yellows.
You felt caged, forced to follow an assembly line with now end in sight without fatal solutions. You didn't want that. You didn't want to feel this way. You wanted to be free. You added the blues and the oranges.
You wanted to leave town and run away. Go to places they said you never could. Meet new people. Try new things. You did careful strokes with your smaller brush, gingerly adding the reds, golds and whites.
You wanted to try new foods, learn old cultures, make new art pieces. To learn. To experience. You traced the brush with the different shades of green on your palette, the color felt homey. Not the grim, downtrodden prison you grew up in. A new home.
The wind blew leaves from the trees like a downpour of stars crying beautiful melodies, allowing you to breathe slowly. Just for a moment.
"Nice portrait..! You got my charming looks down to a T, I'd say.." a voice laced with mischief spoke above your head, snapping you out of your daze.
You look up, seeing a blue hedgehog, lazily laid out along a steady branch and looking down at you with a bit of curiosity nestled in those green eyes.
"..Were you there the whole time..?" You ask, suddenly feeling paranoid that you hadn't noticed him.
"Yeah, saw you walk all the way up here."
"Then..why didn't you say something?" You questioned, brows furrowing up at the strange hedgehog. He shrugs, that same lazy smirk on his muzzle.
"You looked like you needed space. Thought you needed a second to breathe. Everyone does eventually, even me." He replies, sitting up from his resting place.
Okay. Weird. But what did he mean by 'portrait'? You look back down to your book, the same guy was plastered on your small canvas. Captured in various careful strokes that mimicked motion blur like liquids in deep space. Yet those eyes were still, laid on you.
"You seem like a professional. I should let my buddies commission you sometime..!" The hedgehog comments, hopping down from the tree and finding a spot next to you on the tree root.
He chuckles lightly at the blank look on your face as you stare at your own art piece with bewilderment. He leans towards you, voice drenched in amusement.
"If you wanted to paint me, you could've asked.."
He doesn't give you a chance to respond, a loud beep sounding off on him that makes his smile falter slightly, but return as he gets up, walking away and standing at the edge of the hill. The sunlight capturing his blue quills and those green orbs in such a way that might haunt you for days.
"I'd love to stick around and be your muse, but adventure calls. See you around..!" He says, getting into a forward stance before dashing off, leaving a trail of wind and leaves in his wake.
You never even got to know his name, you didn't recognize him from town. And his speed, you'd never see anything like it. You'd heard of someone from a large group of adventures that had unimaginable speed such as this, but you never thought you'd get to see it firsthand. Maybe he was from there?
Most of the so called attacks from the doctor never happened near your hometown and you've only ever seen the destructive machinery at work once or twice.
At least your project was halfway done?
