anyways it would be cool if i could post a chapter before we hit the one year Mark of me not updating lizard tail 💀 but uhh im trying to get ahead a bit so the end of the story actually makes sense.. sory…..

Basically I don’t think it’s right to force or coerce women into being mothers and then abandon them to all of the childcare responsibilities, vilify them for not coping well, and then shame them for giving up care when they would have otherwise resented and treated their children badly. There’s so much shame involved, here Debbie would rather lie about her son being dead than be looked at as a woman who gave up her kid. But there’s a lot of problems with the adoption industry especially for POC kids, with a particular flavor for Asian kids that Debbie would be aware of, so she gave Mark to her father, someone she trusted (not that Nolan would agree to giving Mark up for adoption anyways), and Mark did not grow up feeling unwanted until Nolan brought her up constantly and projected his own "abandonment" by her (divorce). Nolan viewed Mark’s grandfather the way he intended to treat Debbie—a body to care for his offspring until it was old enough to reason with (a child only having value once it knows how to respect and obey). Except Viltrumites don’t do relationships the same way as humans, and likely keep to nuclear families only out of necessity (protecting Viltrumite children before they gain their powers). As a grandparent, Oliver was never meant to raise Mark for him, and Nolan sees him as an interloper the same as he sees Cecil, thus his desire to erase him from Mark’s life—Mark isn’t allowed to talk about him, is reprimanded for speaking what Korean Oliver taught him, and isn’t allowed physical communication with him. While this doesn’t excuse anything, I also think it’s worth noting that Nolan is a fucking idiot who has no idea that this is bad and obsessive behavior. He’s trying to essentially reset Mark into a blank slate so he can go on to raise him “properly” (which he won’t), but doesn’t realize it’s too late to start over with Mark and all he’s doing is harming Mark’s relationship with him, with others, and with himself.
