When I first started building my lbirary of samples and loops, I made a poor choice - not sorting my collecting loops/beats by their BPM at first. Make sure to do this! If two loops have a different tempo they'll likely sound crappy together. It's important to do this when you download the file because many of the file names from sites like looperman don't include the bpm.

So I wanted to do the thing where you merge tracks together (it makes it louder in GarageBand); but instead of that, I accidentally mashed all the notes from every track into a single track, which is actually exactly what the song needed — it was too complicated before. Now it sounds more like an 80s MacIntosh commercial, and I love it.
